The paragraph that follows this song in the book is my favorite passage in any book. "As they sang the Hobbit felt the move of beautiful things made by hands and by cunning and by magic moving through him, a fierce and jealous love, the desire of the hearts of dwarves. Then something Tookish woke up inside him, and he wished to go and see the great mountains, and hear the pine trees and the waterfalls, and explore the caves and wear a sword instead of a walking stick.". This was the best scene in the movie IMO. The atmosphere & mood set by it...dark, deep, INTENSE!!! Perfectly puts across the dwarfs PASSION for there quest. Excellent job to the writer, director, performers/actors & especially the composer of the music, who did a great job of fleshing out the "song" from the book!

This song is so perfectly performed here, it's depth so well captured. I especially love Gandalf's face here, full of thought, memory and appreciation. No wonder, it speaks of home that you miss. I like to imagine he as a Maiar also thinks of his home, at Eru's side listening to no less epic masterpiece sang by the Ainur. I also like to imagine that Heaven's music is no less epic than this.

Man, what a perfect song, what perfect execution, even makes a Maiar look into the distance and think :)

There's just something special and mystical in this scene: the fire, the serenity, the nostalgic feeling, the serious feeling yet emotional, the brotherhood.... it's so magical, it touches the feelings so bad that I cry with this short scene.
