I would love to visit with my husband one day. It’s crazy watching because it looks so normal. Not what I thought from watching the news here in America. ❤

to live in Shanghai you need to make 25 - 30, 000 rmb minimum if you want a decent place, live good, and save some money. it's not for digital nomads. you can live outside the first ring and get a better deal on rent. You can survive off 12, 000rmb.

I have met a young couple in Thailand recently. They were from US and flow to Singapore and they were traveling from Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand and then to Cambodia and Vietnam and before going back to US.
We have happened to have a casual friendly conversation and I have asked them since they are so near to China, why not go to China just for a few days to see China. I told them China is very interesting. But I was surprised of what they told me.
They said according to all their media reports in US and advice by their government and many other people. They were advice and told not to travel to China. Even their parents don't allow them to go to China. They were told China is not a safe country to travel. Very dirty, poor rundown infrastructures, poor transportation system, polluted, homeless people are everywhere waiting to rob tourists are common even in broad daylight. Chances of been detained for no reason by the Communist government is very high. Because China is an authoritarian state and all foreign visitors are monitored by thousands of cameras everywhere and every minute where foreign visitors go. Foreign visitors from western countries can be detained for months or even years for no reason.
All these is what they know about China. The couple is like below 25 years of age and already so badly brainwashed by their government and controlled media. This is really sad.

That was a practical review of Shanghai. I really enjoyed it. I used to be a vegan living in Shanghai too so I get it. Where can we hear your friend's music?

im a foreigner who has lived in shanghai and i disagree that shanghai is international. coming from europe i was shocked how NOT international it is. the amount of foreigners in contrast to total population is so minimal. I get stairs all the time for being a foreigner and looking different. of course, for china its international, but on a global comparison it is not international

Quality of life is all relative to the person though. Different people value different things. For example, if someone valued safety such as the freedom to go for a jog alone at midnight then shanghai would be unmatched. I have lived in Sydney Australia all my life and after living in Shanghai for 2 years, the difference is night and day. Inflation is crazy at the moment here and in most other western countries compared to that of China where there is basically no such thing. If you are going to high end cafes, bakeries and restaurants in expensive areas in Shanghai of course it is not sustainable for the average person. But the things that stand out for me in China compared to other countries I've lived in and visited would be low crime, amazing infrastructure (cheap, clean and reliable public transport), and the cleanliness of the city in general.

If you want to experience the Bund. Go to North Bund. Keep the water on your left, Walk all the way to the South Bund Make sure you are hydrated - dress for the weather. There is much much more to Shanghai than the Bund though, but it will amaze you non the less.
