I grew up in Scotland in a council estate with a father like that. Our neighbour, who I ended up having to work with as a teanager because my father employed him, was also like that. We could hear him screaming at his wife regularly through the walls, and I couldn't help but hear my father screaming at us all of the time! He didn't mind lifting his hands, feet, or the occasional headbutt, either. I also grew up knowing what the end of a shotgun and rifle smelt like, mixed with the stench of cigarettes and whisky. But you know what: I've travelled the world now, lived in two other countries, one of them for a decade and half, and you find that there are people like this everywhere! And not just men!
I had an Australian girlfriend who was like this, and she went to a super posh private school in the south of England and daddy was rich. She used to completely lose it and throw mugs, plates, her phone, tv remote, anything she could get her hands on basically.
It depends on the person, it's not just a societal issue, it's an angry, narcissistic frustrated with life human issue! We're animals trying to learn how to be more sophisticated in a messed up society. It's hard at times.

I can confirm that tourists all over the world believe other people live these wonderful lives. Am from Africa and can honestly say that most people here have never seen real live elephants, lions, giraffe etc
