This video shows you how to replace the cabin air filter in your 2003-2009 Subaru Outback. Cabin air filters clean the outside air coming into your vehicle through the AC and Heat system. Like all other filters, they need to be replaced periodically. Check your filter at every oil change, or if you sense any strange or off-putting odors.

This process should be similar on the following vehicles:
2005 Subaru Outback
2006 Subaru Outback
2007 Subaru Outback
2008 Subaru Outback
2009 Subaru Outback

Thanks for the video. The Subaru engineer's cousin is a Subaru mechanic. The dealer charges like $80.00 for this. [It took 90 seconds to do this in my Toyota].

Thank you so much for this extremely helpful video. I was able to do this myself and wow was I overdue ! Finally feeling confident in my ability to service my car (in some cases lol) on my own. You’re an awesome teacher !

My 2005 Outback 3.0R sedan doesn’t have those 3 screws that hold the metal bracket.

I don't think they could have made it harder to get to. Kind of silly, almost like it was specifically designed this way to give service shops an upcharge opportunity.

'06 Outback suddenly had very poor airflow from all the vents. Suspected the cabin air filter, as we could hear the fan. This video and a borrowed screwdriver did the trick. Thanks!
