Daily Defense 3-18: Benefits of Shooting With a Suppressor

Показать описание
The main purpose of a sound suppressor or silencer is to protect the shooter's hearing from the loud noise of firing a gun. The discharge of a firearm indoors is literally deafening, so a silencer helps preserve your hearing and ability to communicate with other family members in a home-defense emergency. Suppressors are a big help in alleviating new shooter anxiety. Reducing the startling noise of gunshots results in a positive experience that encourages the new shooter to continue their training. Suppressors help many shooters shoot more accurately because the suppressor reduces felt recoil and adds extra weight to the front of the gun, which reduces muzzle rise

There are two types of suppressors. An INTEGRATED suppressor is built into the gun, as it is on the Heckler & Koch MP5SD. An ADD-ON suppressor threads onto the muzzle (direct-thread) or is secured by a quick-detach system. A quick-detach suppressor can be easily swapped between different firearms. High gas pressure keeps the insides of suppressors pretty clean, but they DO need periodic cleaning. Suppressors heat up quickly, so DON’T touch one after firing even a few shots. You can own a suppressor only after applying for - and receiving - an ATF tax stamp. You'll need a tax stamp for EACH suppressor you own. More and more gun owners find the benefits of a suppressor outweigh the extra work and patience needed to acquire one.

Shooting with a suppressor is so nice. I own 6 and love them. The only thing is a pistol silencer is just unpractical unless it sits in your nightstand. I personally don’t know of any holster manufacturers that make a holster for a handgun and mounted suppressor. A rifle suppressor is a different thing, since it is on a sling…

1:22 suppressor reduces over penetration when firing indoors

A suppressor won't decrease over penetration. Where did you get that nonsense from? The bullet has the same muzzle velocity as without

All facts. I bought one in June of last year have yet to get my tax stamp approved. That’s really the only downside to it…

1:19 suppressors reduce over penetration??? Please show us the facts. I’ll be waiting here patiently

Quieter shooting and preventing hearing damage are sufficient reasons for removing suppressors from government control.

The problem with muzzle devices is that most of them on the market are proprietary and are pretty expensive for what they are. This is why I'm strongly interested in the Griffin Armament M4SDII/M4SDK suppressor that uses a type of clip-on attachment onto mil-spec A2 birdcage flash hiders. If you don't have one, the suppressor comes with Griffin Armament's own branded A2 flash hider muzzle device.

Some of the most fun shooting I’ve done in a while is my CZ 457 .22lr bolt action with Dead Air Mask. Between the .22lr and no action cycling, it is movie quiet. I bought the .22 can a while back knowing I’m going to teach my kids to shoot soon but didn’t expect having some much fun with it while I wait for them to get old enough.

Tell me you don’t know shit about firearms and ballistics without telling me you don’t - “A suppressor will reduce the over penetration of a rifle round indoors.” @1:18

Once you shoot with a silencer, you will not want to shoot anything without one. It’s that good

Love my 5.56 can. Waiting for my 9mm can. Can’t wait for post transfer range day

5:04 “Adding the suppressor adds weight which means the rapport or recoil impulse is slightly changed from when there is no suppressor.” 🤔 How is the word “rapport” relevant in any way?

I ordered suppressors for my 5.56 rifle and my .45 Pistol. Waiting times for approvals was 15 months and 13 months (respectively). Too long IMHO.

I’ve been calling them hearing safety devices instead of suppressors or silencers. Time to take the scary Hollywood mystique away from these law maker’s vocabulary. Maybe then they’ll learn.

I have always shot recreationally. With plugs and electronic ear pro. Just do to how often I go and That I can only shoot indoors. I’ve started to develop tinnitus from my
Mk18 while waiting for my can.

It hurts me to know that strictly due to the lack of knowledge and willingness to learn on behalf of congress that my hearing isn’t 100%. I try not to think about it everytime my ears ring.

Then my range let me use my can so it was better. Until surprise the atf visited and now I can’t use my can until I have the stamp in hand. What dmg could one do paying a conjugal visit to their canX what liability if any?

It looks cool. It sounds cool. People think they are not obtainable. I hear ppl say all the time "ill never be able to own a suppressor". Those ppl will not. Yes its a ton of BS red tape but, its worth it. Witt Machine has direct thread combat suppressors for $299. Witt Machine constantly has sales. I just got a 9mm can for $245. Yes I have to pay a $200 tax stamp. When its all said and done ill have under $500 in a lifetime warranty full auto rated 4" suppressor. If someone can't afford that, you might as well get out of firearms as a hobby. I have 3 cans and do not like shooting unsuppressed.

Report is synonymous with sound. This guy keeps using the word “rapport, ” in which the t is silent and the definition isn’t relevant to the topic. Am I the only one noticing this?

I've been shooting suppressors for over 40 years and appreciate their utility. There are several other factors that need to be considered if you intend to use one for home defense. The suppressor will add length to the firearm, thus making it less maneuverable. Indoors you will want to use subsonic ammunition because the sonic crack can be deafening. This limits your list of effective caliber choices. You may face legal hurdles from both local and federal authorities if a suppressor or any NFA is used in a shooting. Both levels of government may try to prosecute or, if one fails, the other may go after you.

Invaluable tool when teaching new shooters. Nothing as quiet as a suppressed .22 I shoot several times a week, so the added hearing protection is a huge benefit as well.

Lose the BRCC t-shirt. Selective advertising should go to 2A defenders.

There nothing like shooting suppressed

Love suppressors. Still don’t want to participate in the bureaucracy of asking for permission, registration, and the extortion fee to exercise my God given rights….It’s a muffler. Doing that makes them stronger. Give those bastards an inch, they’ll take a mile. After we get rid of the “elephant in the room”, then we can talk about the pros and cons of performance.
