Philadelphia health commissioner Dr. Thomas Farley shared new data Thursday that said African Americans are the most at-risk for COVID-19 as the city raised alarm bells over its mounting virus cases. The White House said the city could be a new pandemic hot spot, and city leaders are working to flatten the curve disproportionately affecting minority neighborhoods. Errol Barnett speaks to city and community leaders about the disturbing trend and how they are looking to overcome it.

let me tell you something, I live in a minority low income city here in MA, here its seems people dont care, they dont keep distance, they dont stay inside, the touch everything at stores, they go out in groups, you go in line to the supermarket and you hear everyone complaining about the line and to just let everyone in the store, BUT you go to a more "wealthy" city, and people follow the guidelines set by health officials, THIS ISN'T A RACE ISSUE, this is a people issue, where here in low income communities (WHICH INCLUDES ALL RACES), it seems they just dont care!

Please do a story about how to wear your mask the right way and not upside down!! The metal part is supposed to run tightly along the bridge of your nose, not under your chin like this reporter

I’m not surprised this is happening in Philly hoods. I was working at a deli in kingsessing (now the worst affected district in philly) before we closed shop. However before we closed many customers didn’t want to do the 3 at a time protocol and even got offended and threw threats because they had to wait outside before it was their turn to come in. By the time they realized it’s serious it was too late.

This has nothing to do with race and everything to do with lifestyle. Upper-class people wait six feet apart in line for Trader Joe's once a week and then binge Netflix while hoping that their savings doesn't dwindle too low. Lower-class people must physically interact with several people per day just to get by.

In Los Angeles, Mayor Garcetti has been adamant about shutting down all "non-essential" businesses, but I guess that doesn't apply to poor neighborhoods where beauty supply stores, check cashing places, and pawn shops are still all open. People are walking around like nothing has changed. At least they have masks on, but how can you expect folks who can't even keep their pants pulled up to practice a disciplined personal hygiene regimen?

People are over looking one factor. Philly and New Orleans are travel cities. EVERYONE of different races travels in and out and through these cities by the hundreds of thousands by the day. Dont know about Philly but New Orleans... They had thier annual celebration this year in February. Imagine more or less of a million people elbow to elbow, drinking, laughing and having a good time while maybe 1 out of 500 had Covid and didn't know it. Then when it was over everyone went home locally and out of state after being exposed. I don't completely look at it as a "blacks got hit harder" thing. Some of us do have lifestyles that doesn't help when it comes to immune system warfare, but the celebration happened. People was highly at risk at the start and in the middle of the phase of the virus where its reputation was building.

This news segment doesn't tell age and health of people in the study, so the % doesn't mean much. Plus people who are dying "of" other things and have covid are being counted of dying "of" covid.
