Beautiful and truly on of the most beautiful areas of upstate NY. Sad to see the destruction. RIP and condolences to the woman and her family who was swept away. ✝✝

I'm hoping everyone affected can find the right help and assistance with reclaiming their losses. I can't really wrap my head around this devastating flood. Highland Falls, Fort Montgomery is located in a beautiful and historic area near the Hudson river and on Highway 9W. I spent 5 years in that hood as a US Army chauffeur at the Academy. I do remember some flooding on the West Point campus roadways a couple of times between 1971 a and '76. Nothing like this.
I'm praying for all, and especially my favorite old watering hole the South Gate Tavern. Peace! From Speedy.

The dude who built the dam lives a few houses up from me. We got 3 feet in our basement. Stream is right behind our house. We had sand bags and wood and we still got 3 feet.

Anytime you live in humid areas there is a chance for torrential rain. Even dry areas can get moisture so how much more close to the ocean influences?

I am not sure the road crews were on top of drain clearing and clearing this year. Funds were tight. Ask the mayors if they were busy housing the flood of people diverted to these areas and buying food and such. Lack of mowing and care is obvious.
