Ford Speed Sensor Differences in Curt's Corner

Curt Goes over the different speed sensors that come in the Ford AOD, 4R70W and 4R75W. There are different set ups for the sensors depending on the year of the transmission. The change took place in 2001, going to an input and output speed sensor instead of the single sensor. The transmissions are not interchangeable due to physical and electronic differences.

Why is it so hard to find info on everything earlier than '92? I have a '91 E40D that hard shifts in 1st gear and is sluggish. No burnt smell or shaving in the pan after the fluid and filter change.

How can I tell if mine is bad? I jus brought a 2003 grand marquis which has crazy shudder around 35-45 mph and 50-60 mph. Fluid is currently at the line on top of the crosshatch area. Not black. Doesn’t smell the best though. I was thinking of fluid and filter change to resolve issue and found this might be the culprit??

I have a question on a 1997 Grand Marquis. I got an oil change and bought a speed sensor as well, since the speedometer acts up sometimes, as well as cruise control and a late gear change from 1st to 2nd. When they took out the old speed sensor it had an orange plastic gear with a tip on it on the outside, while the one I got in autozone had a round metallic part with an o-ring. I had a refund on it but I wasn’t able to find that geared sensor. Which one is the right to have in this case? Thanks a lot!

I'm looking the speed sensor of the Ford ranger 2000 4.0 V6 manual, I think it is in the rear dife, right? My speedometer doesn't work and I don't have codes.

Is the input speed sensor located inside or outside of transmission on a 2013 Ford Econoline e350 Van?

How do you tell of the input or the output sensor is bad? I have a 2001 expedition 4x4 and the transmission isn't wanting to change gears by itself. I'm having to let off the gas and then apply the gas again once the transmission changes gears.

While the video is great. Yet you never mentioned it. I assume the sensor you're talking about is the output, the other sensor is the input.
I'm looking for the location for an input speed sensor for 1998 Ford explorer.

As a female I am trying to learn how to fix my own vehicle after getting ripped off, so are you saying that my 2000 ford expedition 4.6L V8 Triton XLT has only one speed sensor?

Is it called the automatic transmission output speed sensor?

If so, where would it be located?
