Can the Tesla Model 3 be stopped?!

There’s no denying that the Tesla Model 3 is one of the most popular all-electric saloons in the world.

No matter where you are in the world, chances are it won’t take long until you spot a Model 3 driving by - and an all-new edition is due out in early 2024! The question is, will this all-new Model 3 be able to keep hold of its crown? Or could some other all-electric saloons take its place, such as the IONIQ 6, Mercedes EQE or BMW i4?

Well to start off, let’s check out the design of these four EVs. Starting with the new Model 3, there are slimmer headlights up front as well as a big central vent in the bumper. There are new alloy wheel designs as well as some specially designed tyres for the car, and around the back, there’s a set of new taillights and an updated bumper.

On the inside, there are a number of new features. The seats now come with ventilation, and there’s an LED light bar that runs along the side doors and across the dash. The stalks have also been removed from the steering wheel, with indicator buttons now added to it.

Next up we have the Hyundai. The Ioniq 6 has a sleek, swooping body design, coupled with dual spoilers at the back. It comes with a pixelated light design similar to the 5, although it also has a bit of a strange rear bumper design. The sleek looks continue around the front, and all-in-all it’s pretty smart!

On the inside the design is pretty similar to the Ioniq 5. There are good quality materials across the dash, and a large infotainment & digital dial dual screen mounted to the middle of it.

Next up we have the EQE. The outside looks pretty much identical to the all-electric EQS, but it’s just been made a bit smaller. There aren’t any smart creases on the outside either.

Thankfully the interior is much more striking. There are two interior styles to choose from, and both come with an absolutely huge infotainment screen - one of these stretches across the entire dash! The digital dial screens are super smart, and there are soft-touch materials throughout the entire cabin.

Then finally we have the BMW i4, it looks seriously impressive! It comes with the large ‘grille’ design at the front, side skirts along the side, and at the back, you'll find sculptured tail lights and a mini bootlip spoiler.

Step inside and the design is the same as the all-new M3 and M4, so you know it’ll be nice to sit in. But then it’s not a surprise given it’s built on the same platform as the M3!

So they all look nice, but then it comes down to the price. The new Tesla Model 3 will be released in the UK in early 2024 and will cost from £39,990. The Ioniq 6 starts from just under £47,000, and the i4 starts at around £50,000 price tag. But the most expensive car is the Mercedes EQE, which will set you back £69,000!

So which of you think is best? Let us know in the comments!

I think it’s a shame that this isn’t a new shooting with new cars, as oppose to using old clips and stitching it together. As someone who watches all your videos, I recall all these clips, so it doesn’t have the same feeling as your other comparisons do.

Looking on the Tesla UK website the Single Motor Model 3 as shown in this video (the NEW version not the old one) is £39.990 and not £43, 000 as mentioned in this review. Making the Tesla even more value for the money.

You all remember when people said "Tesla is in trouble when the other manufacturers start producing electric vehicles"? 🤣😏 About that...

I first drove the Tesla 3 with the dual motor engines, now I drive the standard range+ for 3 months. Improved quality by interior, less wind and tyre noises. Currently 4.000 km on the clock ... total of charges in KwH = 780. Great car!

Hey Matt... Would love to see a video where you pick your favorite EV in every price band... 20-30K, 30-40K, and so on

You missed my favourite Tesla feature that makes it stand out and thats the automatic adjustment of the seats, mirrors, steering wheel and heating vents to your personal profile when you get in and put your foot on the brake. Also the seat and steering wheel moving out the way when you want to get out. My wife is 4'8'" and many a time before the Tesla, I would jump into the car and get pinned between the seat, steering wheel and roof lining.

Model 3 is my favorite I’ve had. Fun to drive, super efficient, cheap to maintain. I’ve had many cars including Mercedes amg’s, BMW’s, Volvo, Audis etc.

I love the part of the video where he's saying the BMW infotainment system is super responsive and you can literally see it lagging on screen as he's saying it and swiping lol 😂

Keep in mind that the tires impact efficiency significantly. The i4 and IONIQ 6 both had the largest tire and rim size available on them, which lowers their range 15-20% worse than it would otherwise be. The Tesla and EQE in this test had their range-optimised rims on.

Living in Canada, I'd only ever buy a Tesla. The Tesla charge network is everywhere and just works. There are some really great alternatives but the CCS network(s) here in North America just suck, making a road trip very difficult. Once the NACS network is fully open to the other manufacturer's cars then it'll be better for everyone.

I already chose my EV and driving it now. I have the 2023 Tesla model Y. I wanted a hatchback style instead of the model 3 Sedan. Model Y is also very popular. I could care less about the other manufacturers whether they make EV vehicles or not. I will always buy my vehicles from Tesla from now on. Also, Their pricings are slowly coming down. Plus I don't like buying from dealerships, Tesla direct buy to the customer is the best. i only charge my Tesla at home, so I don't do any public charging.
End of Story.

I think the biggest issue to note. Yes all the other manufacturers are building really great ev’s. Noone is going to be able to build it out at any sort of scale and do it profitably like Tesla can. It’s simple numbers and math that is not a good sign for all the legacy carmakers. It makes them all become small boutique ev builders.

You are comparing a £40k entry level car with cars twice the price, says it all, especially when you look at the extras lists of the other cars. Good review though, remember also that the success of Tesla is down to the volume they are able to produce PS Model 3 horn was always in the centre

There is a comparison between the models, but no comparison on the base price: the Tesla is much, much cheaper than the other ones. For what it offers, it's the best option on the market. Shame the rear window doesn't open with the trunk lid.

Just bought one. I have test driven all EVs on the market, but a Tesla is just something else. Lightyears ahead of any competition.

Tesla has invested a lot in superchargers. Makes you wonder why other manufacturers havent done the same. They could all work together to have way more chargers than Tesla but at the moment that Tesla charging network is the biggest reason to choose it.

As electrical engineer involved in the industry, Tesla has defiantly proved itself best in all our engineer testing
