Fixing a Banned Fly Pattern!

Today I am fixing a banned fly pattern for a client. This is the vanilla ice bugger that will be used in Canada, where it's banned in some rivers to fish-weighted flies. Since this pattern typically has a cone head, it’s hard for them to find one to use. However, we can fix this!

I've always had a question about the banned flies. Are these flies banned in competition or recreational use or both?

Nice video! Also do you have any flies that you would recommend for fishing brook trout in Sweden?

Just a little detail, I don’t know if you thought you counterwound the wire, but actually it went the same way as the hackle. Be more secure if you wind both materials “over the top”. Probably won’t matter much in this case.

Not gonna lie, I just thought the whole "Banned flies" thing was clickbait. Needless to say I'm amazed

You see if you do lead wire raps on the hook and cover it up with dubbing they'll never know 😂

Take it to power! Nor-vise is the way to go, I started tying on a traditional vise like the majority of us have. In the early 90s I bought a Nor-vise and once you get used to the automatic bobbin there is no going back to the days of yore! Check out Norm Norlander the machinist that invented the Nor-vise 👍👍

Wtf why would they ban a weighted fly. They fish with plugs and spoons, what gives?
