I recently took apart a tiny Parts Master 61348 oil filter on my new to me 2014 Ford Focus; it had no bypass valve in it (which I don't mind for summer use), a plastic type cage (that didn't seal all that well to the leaf-spring at the bottom of the can, nor the rubber type drain-back valve that seems unnecessary for a vertical hanging filter), and the paper type end caps - that tore off easy and cleanly (except for one tiny part on one end) were a bit concerning although it all seemed to have held up - minus not knowing if fibers came off and went into the engine.

I replaced it with a longer and a bit wider filter that I had on hand for my old 99 F150 - hoping more media will be better (which it should) and hopefully the bypass valve won't open when the oil isn't really cold.

I find it more than disappointing that we can't come to an agreement about what's good and what we should be trying to do.
