Can’t keep your life savings at home in case of burglaries or fire

They owned an asian market in San Raphael for two decades. The burglars probably knew them at some point and made the hit when they knew they weren’t home.

If they broke into my home, they going think I have already been robbed.

Protecting $500, 000+ with a surveillance system that costs >$100 a month is nuts.

This is happening a lot in the Union City - Fremont area, where thieves are defeating WiFi security systems, and routinely break into safes. Homeowners need to start knowing their neighbors and band together to support each other for security. The police will not protect you.

I dumped all my cash to the bank. With high crime like burglary going on, it’s a big risk. With the bank, yes, they may go defunct but there is the FDIC insurance.

Half million worth of cash and valuables AT HOME? This is just incredible!

That's why you should put your money in the bank, as it is FDIC insured.

I think the lesson here is, you don't leave your life savings in your home.
But the question is, how much are they inflating the value of what was stolen.

Venezuela and south Americans usually do it like this.

Did anyone see how hilariously pathetic that $200 home depot safe at the end was? The thing wasnt anchored to the ground, seemed to be mounted on plastic coasters, and was light enough the elderly dad was able to move it by himself easily to show the camera, those arent even safes, all they are is a lockbox to prevent children and teens from getting into. Secondly, a real security system has battery backup and wifi AND cellular so a burglar could cut power and phone lines, and wifi jamming but the second they trip a door or motion sensor, the panel goes nuts!

Never use wireless security systems....this is a prime example why...try to use a wired system, its more secure and less prone to being compromised...if they had a wired camera system it might have helped in alerting of the brake in...hate to say it... don't go cheap with home security and don't use a wireless system otherwise you're asking for trouble

What alarm did he have? Spill it. Stop protecting the vulnerabilities.

Unreported cash income from their Marin county grocery store that's why it was not in a bank account.

Do wifi jammers work on Waymo? Why keep more than $1, 000 at home? Those 3 just retired. You will never find them. Good luck. Jammers are expensive but it works.

Can’t imagine the anxiety of keeping all your savings and assets in the house. Every time you went out you need to worry not to mention the risk to your personal safety when your in the house. And if the house goes on fire you risk your life trying to save stuff.

It’s sucks what happened. But today is beautiful. They have their health. They have each other. They have love. So many beautiful things to be grateful for.
