The thing is, Joker (at least the Arthur Fleck version) never really was mentally stable. But the proper descent into insanity began when he killed those men in the subway. When he killed his mother, however, this was it. His mother was essentially the little sanity Arthur had left. And by taking Penny's life, he threw that little sanity out the window.

You know what's terrifying about this scene? His face is completely emotionless. He kills the woman who raised him with no second thought and simply stares out the window afterwards. I think it was here that Arthur Fleck truly died.

I'd feel sorry for her, but Karma's a bitch, and I couldn't help but agree with it.

You know what's funny? You know what really makes me laugh? I used to think that my life was a tragedy, but now I realized it's a fckn comedy. That's the most chilling, most heart breaking, the saddest and the most scary line from Arthur! Still giving me heartache and goose bumps, fvk!

"Now I realize, it's a f*ckin comedy" could have easily been the worst line of the movie had Joaquin not gone out of his way to make it sound so intimidating, cold, and disconnected. It's like hearing a souless echo. Love this movie.

The second time after Gladiator that a Joaquin Phoenix character has smothered an on-screen parent to death.

0:30~0:48 Does Anyone know what it means? I thought Arthur had a laughing illness after the abuse not since he was born.

His birth name was probably Jack Napier and his real father was probably J Kerr.

It drives me mad how most viewers take everything said and done in this movie (and media in general) with out any critical thought at all.

Like yeah, the documents say Thomas isn't the father, he himself says he isn't. But neither of these things mean anything. The documents could be (and probably are) fake, as Thomas is very, very roch and extremely powerful and there is no reason to think Thomas isn't lying, as revealing the truth would harm his reputation considerably. Penny even said "they made her sign some documents".

How yall don't even CONSIDER that Penny was actually not lying is insane to me lol
