History:
The history of Indian Advertising can be traced back to the hawkers who used to call out for their goods using loud cries, sounds and slogans.

During Pre independence era, as the target audience was Britishers, most of the ads of Gramophones, travel, Hotels, four wheelers, etc. were targeted towards them.

After the demolition of princely states, middle class came into existence and focus was shifted from luxury to durable goods

The history of Print advertising in India has its roots in classified advertising. Ads appeared for the first time in printed words in Bengal Gazette .

Dattaram, became the first funded advertising agency in 1905 and published its first advertisement on West & Watch Company in 1907.

Banners ads were introduced on trams in 1920.

Around 1930s the emergence of Murphy Radio made way for the playing ads on Radio

Around 1940, Lever's advertising department became the first company to setup an example of brand marketing with the launch of Dalda.

Well talking about Television advertising, Leela Chitnis became the 1st Indian Actress to endorse Lux soap in 1941.

In 1950s, Cinema advertising came into existence and Press Syndicate became the leading advertising agency.

In 1978, the first television commercial went on air and in the 1980s, Bombay Dyeing became the first color Ad.
In the same year, ASCI and IAA(Indian Chapter) were formed and also sponsored programmes started.

1993 saw the birth of the only advertising school, MICA in Ahmedabad.
