You can find FMCB for pretty cheap on ebay. Don’t pay too much though, literally anyone can make a FMCB card in a second. You’re mainly just paying for a Magic Gate memory card that happens to have it preloaded.

FreeDVDBoot

FreeDVDBoot is something you can make yourself, if you have a blank DVD-R lying around that is. With FreeDVDBoot and ‘FMCB Installer’ loaded on a USB stick, you can easily make your own FMCB cards, and make one for a friend while you’re at it. Most people use FDVDB just to make themselves FMCB.

Because this is a new discovery, not every PS2 firmware has an exploit made for it. I own 2 phat PS2s, one worked, one didn’t. You’ll have to check the firmware of your DVD player via the System Browser and compare it to the current list below. If you own a slim, yours is guaranteed to work.

I highly recommend this method if you were going to experiment with different versions of BBN or Linux builds, otherwise you can ditch the SD extender and stuff everything in the expansion bay. You can also just run things off ethernet, pretty neat.

Note: There are other images out there that can connect to mirrors of the BBN websites. They’re kind of hard to find and the servers are always hosted by Russians for some reason. Overall it’s a pain to find a solid image with working mirrors.

One cool thing you can do after you install FMCB is to use MC2SIO or MX4SIO (they’re essentially the same since the board design is open source iirc). The transfer speed is faster than USB so no stuttering during FMVs (usually happened with USB drives since PS2 only has USB 1.1) and it’s much simpler. The drawback is that the game’s compability is still not that great
