Casual reminder that CompTIA opposes Right to Repair

Companies HATE when Linus exposes their poor business practices.

Cool, so congrats CompTIA, I no longer recognize your certs. And I'll make sure my company doesn't either. And I imagine I'm not alone. What a footgun this was.

So reading between the lines CompTIA threatened to sue LMG so they decided to take down the video because it wasn't worth going to court over.

In this clip: CompTIA throws a big law firm at LTT and gets it removed from even LTT's platform.

some guy at comptia:
"yeah let's revoke his cert, that'll show him"

As I commented under that video, I don’t even look for certs (or even degrees) anymore because they’ve become virtually meaningless. This tactic literally proves that not only are those certs they offer meaningless, but they know it full well too.

They draw more attention to the content by doing this. It was rather obscure and niche before. Now, it's under a spotlight.

and Network Chuck's response to your CompTia videa was also removed. It's like they're the mafia.

The internet when we were kids: it will be on the internet forever
Internet today: nothing will survive

After the last takedown, I learned my lesson and am now one of the archivers. I wasn't previously interested in this video but now that it was taken down I'm gonna watch it. I hate when good content gets removed from the internet, so I save lots of it and would encourage others to do the same.

I *had* the whole slew of CompTIA certs from 20 years ago that were forever. They aren't forever anymore. It's honestly scary to think that despite keeping up with tech for 2 decades since getting them, despite my certs having no expiration date, they are now.

Ill put my comment back here since the video is deleted. After working in the tech/it industry for 11 years I can say very comfortably that both Cisco and CompTIA make their certifications purposely confusing and difficult in order to generate more revenue. Some questions on Cisco's CCNP exams felt the equivalent of finding a needle in a needle stack.

In case anyone was wondering: fair use only applies when the original copyright is in the US. Anything copyrighted outside the US must be handled according to the law of the original country. WIPO is a strange beast.

Gotta love when companies do this - when they give you every reason to boycott and dislike them. Clever move, CompTIA.

I once live streamed the Blue Angels at Fleet Week in San Francisco. My stream was taken down all because someone road by in the last 10 minutes with a speaker blasting music that got a copyright strike.. 10 seconds of distant audio took down a 3 hour stream. YouTube found me in the wrong despite protest

I'm not sure if the argument about perceived permanece holds. Sure, the video isn't on the LTT channel anymore, but typing "linus A+" is enough to immediately find a re-upload here on YouTube.
