Parity Check is not a foolproof method of checking for errors!

I'm Mr. Woo and my channel is all about learning - I love doing it, and I love helping others to do it too. I guess that's why I became a teacher! I hope you get something out of these videos - I upload almost every weekday, so subscribe to find out when there's something new!

I don't usually comment on youtube. But you are so Passionate in your teaching. It's crazy. I hope all teachers can be like this. Thx for your value here.

Came across Parity Check while reading through the CompTIA study guide, I did not understand fully. Being able to visually see the process cleared it up in a minute and on top of it this was explained very well, thank you so much.

Wow. You explained in 3 minutes & I understood everything while my prof. needed at least 20 min with an average understanding rate of 33% :^)
You are awesome! I'm gonna check out your other videos as well

I wish I had you as a professor....mine is old, grumpy and makes everyone not want to ask questions because he responds as if we are stupid. He is also sexist.

i want to ask, this single bit parity right?   how about for two-dimensional bit parity? can u show it how to detect error

so how do you use a parity check with both problems / prevent wrong message from being recieved ?

Hi Woo,

Just a question. This suff that your explaining like (Parity and checksum) is that in Univeristy class? Or are you just going around different schools. In other words,  are you teaching in univeristy or high scholl? Because i am studying the same topic. I find your video really beneficial. Thanks

Sorry for my lanuage

Dear +Eddie Woo, this is awesome! Great explanation.

However, I'm not sure about your probability calculations. Shouldn't one include the chance of interference?

Suppose the chance of a bit getting flipped is 1% (I don't know if this is accurate).

Then the probabilities should look something like this:

1) Both bits uncorrupted: (1 - 0.01)^2 = 0.9801
2) One of the bits corrupted: (1 - 0.01) * 0.01 * 2 = 0, 0198
3) Both bits corrupted: 0, 0001

The parity checking should respond correctly to 1 and 2, and therefore 99, 99% of all errors (given interference prob of %1).
Which is much larger. Even if the chance of corruption is 10%, still the parity checking should respond correctly to 99% by the same logic.

This might be nitpicking, but please do tell me what you think about the observations above.

Thanks again for so many great videos.
