Avitus understood the reality of Warhammer 40k, and it consumed him in despair

Avitus knew. Avitus wanted only to die. He was too proud to commit suicide so he sought certain death the only way he knew how- betrayal.

Avitus talks like a simple guy from our world who mysteriously got into the warhammer universe.

Avitus lost everything he believed in. If he was in a Chapter with a nobler origin (almost anyone) and a Chapter Master WHO WAS NOT EVIL then Avitus would not have fallen. All he wanted was to fight and kill for a cause, and doing so "for a Primarch we don't know" and "our leaders are idiots" and "desh ish chaptain Diomedesh." Never settled for him.

Despite hating everyone, he actually cared the most.

I spent this whole game determined that I was going to make Avitus the traitor because I never liked him. Only once he became the traitor and I was forced to kill him did I actually start to like him as a character. Go figure.

Avitus discovered the truth about everything in Warhammer 40K.

I personally find Avitus to be the second most sympathetic traitor, after Thaddeus (not counting Jonah obviously). The simple fact is that he's right. He's the only one who is willing to see the grim truths of the universe he lives in.

so avitus found out what we knew already it is a "grim dark future of grim dark grim darkness".

Avitus woke up from the lies of the universe, especially after starting a Games Workshop collection and finding out the price of a single devastator squad

"Mewling" is a really popular word for Chaos in this game

Cyrus was sadly mistaken; Avitus did escape *Retribution* since he does not appear in the Retribution expansion since this is the canon betrayal :P

The funny thing is that even though it sounds like Avitus' voice actor playing the altered voice of the hidden traitor, it is clearly a different take than when he played Avitus saying those same lines.

Cyrus is also pretty reasonable, he's as serious as Avitus, just less of an asshole. It's hard to pick which person had the most sympathetic conversion, they each have sensible reasons for turning to chaos. If I HAD to choose one, I'd say Martellus is my least sympathetic, he was solely self-preservation minded; both Tarkus and Thaddeus turned for altruistic reasons, they are my most sympathised. Cyrus and Avitus turned because of cynicism with the way things are, both sensible.

Avitus is pretty bad-ass for a sergeant. In a way I'm glad his betrayal was canon as it was the coolest of the five. For anyone wondering why his is most likely the canon one it's because in DOW II: Retribution Tarkus does say he slew someone who fought alongside him on Kronus; Avitus and Tarkus are the only one thats served together on Kronus. Avitus is not referred to by name but Thaddeus was not on Kronus and Cyrus is alive and well in Retribution along with Martellus.

avitus in my opinion had the best role as traitor (out of the good guys) he wasn't over emotional and straight to the point. When playing the part as the traitor it was written well with his whole personality taken into account. "HOW COULD HE BETRAY US? -WHY?!- AVITUS WHY?!?!" quite funny.

@TriforceOmega

Its actually all the voice actors at once. Avitus just happens to have the deepest voice.

So the hardened, honorable and noble warrior finally snapped to the horrors of the WH40K universe and became a bloodthirsty, nihilistic traitor?

Why am i not surprised?

TheVoiceOfReason

@Extraintrovert he joined Chaos because he's tired of the Chapters lies and at least [in his mind] chaos is honestly evil; while the Chapter covers up their bloodlust with 'honour' and 'duty'.
"I can't take it any longer!"
