RV How To - Was the Weboost 4G-X Cellphone Booster worth the $Money$

This is an update to a couple of RV How To videos I did about installing and using the Weboost 4G-X Cellphone booster. In this video, I show you how much the signal improved when I switched from the Omni-directional antenna to the Directional antenna.

The directional antenna is super handy when you're a long way from the cell tower. It amplifies the signal going to and from the cell phone tower and in this video, I show you a huge improvement in upload and download speeds using it verses the omni-directional.

I only need to use this occasionally but when I do it has worked every time to improve speeds.

I'd have to say that after 18 months I am very satisfied with this booster.

The parts you need are all on my Amazon Store.

You know when you get a lot of the same question that your video was not clear or the interesting points not covered very well. I've achieved both in this video... So the apps I am using to locate and map cell sites are: On the phone I use Network Cell Info Lite. Note I am on Android and I don't think this app is available on Apple. Apple users let me know what your are using.
At about 1:34 in the video you see the app on my phone (*android) called network cell info lite. It has a map function (not shown) that shows which tower is servicing you. Then at about 2:04 you see a google earth pro map with a free plugin (kmz file) from a company called Cavell Mertz that plots all the tower registrations in the FCC database.
Look for a How To next Friday on how I use this to find good cellular coverage.

We had a Weboost RV kit installed on our Airstream trailer. The omni antenna was mounted to the Winegard batwing TV antenna with the cable coming through the fridge vent then to the amplifier mounted to the fridge wall inside. The indoor cable was then routed to the dinette table. Maybe because the trailer was only 25’ the distance between the antennas was not enough to get enough boosted coverage inside the trailer. The Wingard antenna was located near the rear living/dinette table area The line of site length between the antennas was probably only 12’. Any phone the was not on the dinette table didn’t see a boosted signal. It still worked better than nothing and we were able to pull signals in most places we visited out West.

From your earlier video you stated the distance between the antennas is crucial to getting better indoor distance coverage. We have transitioned to a Tiffin Red 37pa which is 39’ long. The dinette which is in a slide are is up front behind the passenger seat. The slides make routing cables more difficult. In your setup is your desktop antenna on the other side of your living are from your desk but you are able to get a good boost or do you use a WiFi hotspot near the indoor antenna? Have you considered mounting a wall mounted antenna from Weboost?

Wilson sells low loss cables that are longer since the ladder is probably at least 35’ to the drop point in a cabinet which has 110v and 12v power, over the passenger seat. Will that be too much loss in your opinion. Would you expect the indoor antenna range to be able to cover the front living area, the opposing couch is about 10’ away?

Thanks for any advice.

Love it when we get higher speeds that we used to at our sticks and bricks. BTW, what do you use to find towers and which one your on?

TR... Am I the first?? Another good, informational video. More for me to consider.
I think I've decided on an RV. Winnebago, Aspect 26a. Class B+. I'll be retiring in about two and a half years. That should give me enough time to get to know the systems and make the modifications I have in mind. You've been a wealth of information. But keep in mind I would still like to pick your brain about several things in the future.
It's finally sweet corn season here in Iowa. One of my favorite times of the year. I'll be grilling out for sure this weekend.
How's the fishing going?? Have you caught anything worth bragging about?? Fresh caught trout cooked on the grill with butter and lemon sounds really good right now.
Safe travels my friend.
Randy in Des Moines. 👍🌎✌

What did you use to attach the flag pole to your ladder?

TR, what apps were you using for the cell tower maps?

Nice report, thanks for sharing. I was wondering how you aim the antenna since the computer is inside and the antenna is outside. Unless you had remote control it would seem to be a bit difficult. Or, do you simply use a compass to point it in the general direction. I would also like to know how you found the map of Verizon towers. Is that cellmapper.com?
