The first thing I think of doing when getting infected is disconnecting the computer from the internet

But those device whitelists can be easily exploited by spoofing the device ID and name on the Bad USB…

In Texas, if he breaks into a house and plugs this into a computer, he will leave in a body bag.

Texas courts demand that the trespasser be armed, and the homeowner feel like his life was in danger at the time of the shooting.

The best protection is not taking your tech out in public and NOT STICKING RANDOM STUFF IN YOUR USB

If I remember rightly, wasn’t autorun disabled on Windows past XP/Vista for USB devices? Of course, the way around that would be spoofing the system into reading the USB as a CD..

it would be so easy to patch from windows pov: just don't let any random input device to gain access to inputs. you could add a qr code and a number that represents the input device so that you could pre-give access to the input device.

This is what a "supply chain attack" looks like - hackers intercept legitimate hardware and modify it.

Not falling victim requires diligence - checjing security seals on packaging, etc. - but even then, it's easy to get caught out.
