Love how gentle you are. Side note, be sure not to put your face OVER the horses head/ neck. I've had my world rocked before when they threw their head up! 😂

Nothing more beautiful than a sweet brideling

Dude we tried the treat thing and he kept spitting the bit and taking the treat, he’s a smart lil quarter horse!

My momma always put a little molasses on the bit. Her Appaloosa loved and so did my pony 😊

I have owned two that didn't want to open their mouths, not sure why as I got both when they were older and they came that way to me but I rubbed molasses on the bit and they loved it and it has never been a problem since.

Horse I rode for a few years started off with eggbut snaffle, then I got him a Pelham bridle for local level shows, we borrowed a bit for him which was a slightly rounded straight bar. Everything changed then, he became lighter to ride (he was a Middle weight cob) he started to offer to take his new bit, so I changed his snaffle for this bit with snaffle rings & his whole behaviour changed. Just because we decide to use a particular bit, doesn’t mean the horse likes that particular bit.

I remember my horse was afraid of getting the bit in and out, but a little molasses and a whole lot of patience helped her associate it with positive things a bit more.

I ride dressage so the bridle is more complicated- more buckles to close, etc. Therefore I don’t want my horses’ head so low. I teach them to hold their head at comfortable height for me, which is my chest height.

Or you teach your horse to bridle themselves. Just put some honey or molasses onto the bit and they lower their head to take it. Since they will be lucking and chewing on the now sweet flavored bridle they start out the training in a relaxed state of mind.
I have done it 3 times and then my horse hat gotten it. Now I sometimes do it when he just has an anxious day and that makes him start out the session really relaxed.
And yes I do sometimes give him a treat for brideling himself but just like with the molasses just occasionally

Well my horse would become a giraffe and start waving his head up and down aggresively 😂 might need to try the molases trick.

Just learning my guy to lower his head to put his halter on (Clydesdale) and he’s doing pretty good.

I have a question…would a mule be an okay choice for a first time owner? I can’t decide between a horse and mule.

Mine likes to put his mouth on everything so bridling is both the easiest thing and worst thing ever because I’m trying to make sure he doesn’t eat the check piece but he will put the bit in himself if it’s there

I use the British method. Slip your right arm under the horse's head, take hold of both cheek pieces with the right hand and also hold the bridge of his nose with your right hand and hold his head tucked against your arm and chest. Take the bit into your left hand and guide it to his mouth while at the same time lifting the bridle up to his ears with the right hand. You can use your thumb of your left hand to help open his mouth (if he is reluctant) and then carefully lift the bridle up over his ears as you cup each ear to fit in the brow band. This way, you have much more control of the horse's head position.

Just curious
What are those things hanging off the snaffle?🤔🥰
A horse thar knows how to lower their head is SO very helpful -for DO many reasons
Thank you for all you do🥰😍

Sadly mine freaked out AFTER it was in her mouth, and is smart enough to refuse the bit since. No, putting honey on it didn't work. She also reared and freaked out getting an apple stuck in her teeth. 😢

I'm HOPING a dentist appointment will help her. But uh... yeah. We're having a time. She's a fully grown mare, we've been riding in a halter / hackamore so far.

How do you teach the lowering of the head when putting pressure on their neck?
