Are Personal Trainers Worth It? - (What They WON’T Tell You 🙊)

I’ve been a fitness & nutrition coach for almost 6 years now.
Before moving online, I rented a private personal training studio for 2 years.
The results my clients got were great…
BUT they could have been much better.
Why?
Because your workout is only 5% of your day.

While this is mainly true, it’s important to consider that a healthy life style is priceless. Many personal trainers aren’t there to steal your money, they are there to give you the tools and information you need to be your best self. That being said i want my clients to be autonomous in the end but I also have to make a living and it’s not like I’m intentionally delaying or withholding information so they have to keep working with me, many just enjoy my support and accountability.

My trainer motivates me to perform exercises to a degree I would never do on my own. He’s gold in my life.

As a trainer, I’d say majority of this is true for gen pop. But the biggest reason all my clients stay with me, and they tell me upfront, it’s the accountability and knowing someone is there waiting for you. Plus, it’s a lot more fun shooting the shit and working out compared to being alone at the gym where you feel like (as a newbie) everyone is judging you. I’d say personal training is more life coaching than it is teaching someone how to exercise. After the first 2-3 weeks/month, my clients know which exercises to do and hit for total body fitness, but people stay for you. Any trainers reading this, you play a bigger role in your clients’ lives than you think, and in ways you didn’t even realize.

The reason that I am thinking about getting a personal trainer is so that I can stay motivated. I used to workout by myself like a maniac as my brother would say but years have passed, I've been through some shit and lost all motivation and will. I do watch my diet and am all about health but thats all the will I have for at this moment. So having someone pick you up out of bed and beat you up (not literaly obviously) with a good workout, keep you straight, its more than enough for me. I just need the motivation and support, thats it. He can just stand there thats fine, as long as he doesn't let me quit, thats all I need.

I hate the attack on trainers. Anybody can find a workout online but many ppl have underlying negative beliefs about themselves, or unconscious habits that affect their health and body. A good trainer is there to push you to go outside your conform zone, and also forget to count reps

70% is Nutrition, 20 % Res, and 10% is working out. Personal Trainers do more than you mentioned. They also check the clients imbalances and help them correct them while also teaching about nutrition while having a good structure for the workout and help them to achieve their goals. Anyone can tell people randomly what workouts to do but not everyone knows why you should do certain exercises and why it helps them while also having a progression or a regression for the exercises so anyone can do them 🙏🏾

I love having a personal trainer! I don't have to worry about designing my workouts and I do things I wouldn't normally do myself in the gym. Plus, money is a motivator for me so if I'm paying someone for a service, I'm 100% going to show up.

This sounds like someone throwing shade because you could actually say this same thing about him making content! He’s only making content so that we can watch it and he can get paid 😊

Personal trainers are actually there for accountability more than anything. A lot of people struggle with being consistent.
You just trolling for clout 🤡

You only forgot that without a personal trainer you could be damaging your body and you would notice only when it starts to hurt. A month later when you go back to the gym without a professional, you would most likely hurt yourself again by thinking that you could jump right to the weights you were lifting before. Yes you can lear and became a pt yourself, but if you’re an amateur trying to be healthier look for a professional to help you out

I'm getting a Personal Trainer out of loyalty issues. I can only do 20-30 minutes because of college.
Once I don't have to take morning sessions anymore, I can take some afternoons with a trainer.

These are facts. However, what we are paying for is support and motivation, which can be sloppy after 8hrs day of work in an office plus not having to think on your workout plan

Most people are not learning form in a week or two. People that need personal trainers need the help. Don't hate on them or make them feel like someone is being taken advantage of.

As a pt, I disagree. Giving your clients your best and allowing them to achieve their goals brings more clients.

My whole business as a personal trainer is teaching self sufficiency. I literally tell clients, I’ll have more people in life. Learn all you can after you sign up and before you leave me, if you do. You sir are forgetting the 90% (little tip) that these clients must engage in self sufficiency to become self sufficient. How long have you been training? I’m going to guess I have a minimum decade on you. Your first tip is accurate for a “I just want the job trainer.” 2nd tip - nutrition, couldn’t agree more. I missed if there was another or third tip. But, your secret tip, I personally feel you need more convos with other trainers and experienced trainers before you shotgun our industry like that.

The nutrition part depends on the state you live in.

I mean #2 there’s a huge accountability factor that shouldn’t be underplayed. Yes they’re counting reps 😂 but a lot of folks just need to be held accountable, especially when it comes to exercise.

As a trainer I wish clients could learn everything they need and in a month or 2, but there’s a lot that need help with different things besides the form correction. Sometimes is a simple as having the pressure of an appointment to get their asses working, I have a client for 3+ years 3 sessions a week that does pretty good, and his thing is more about a lifestyle, but even nowadays we found ourselves learning a lot, and we got time to perfect everything we do

This may be somewhat true, yes they are a professional and ultimately want to get paid for their services. But for most this is the profession they chose because they genuinely enjoy it and love it. Trainers should be extremely proficient in what program will benefit you, they can still give tips and suggestions for nutrition even though they technically can’t give you a flat out personalized meal plan. They may refer you to a dietician though! And hold you accountable to stick to those goals. A good trainer tells you everything you need to know. They’re there to provide knowledge, accountability, keeping a focus on your form and structure to your workouts. You just show up and they basically put all the research and planning into it for you. They should be building a workout plan specially for YOU and your goals. It’s not one size fits all. The trainer is also there to ask the right questions, to help you break down barriers, to be that voice of reason for you. Trainers who are passionate know this and there’s a lot more behind the scenes than JUST counting your reps.. and they’re happy to make you self sufficient, usually they just ask that you might refer them to a friend, or even write and share your testimony that can show new clients the value the trainer gave you.

Okay, that’s a bold statement to claim you can teach a client proper DL, squat, and bench press form in just 2 weeks assuming you see them 2-3 times a week..
