Homeschool Mom Guilt | HOMESCHOOL for REAL | When It Seems like Everything is 'Your Fault'

When you make the counter-cultural choice to homeschool, you might occasionally hear voices--both within, and without--that blame any and all "problems" your children face squarely on that choice you made to homeschool. Regardless of the fact that every child in every form of education will face a variety of challenges as they grow, you might sometimes wonder how to respond to these voices...whether they come from the inside or from outsiders.

How do you approach dealing with mom guilt as a homeschooler?

I needed this today! One of my children has dyslexia and although I know his struggles would exist regardless, sometimes the helplessness makes me feel guilty.

This is one of my favorite videos so far Rachel! I am really loving this series. So good! We do need to take blame off the table and embrace the things that make us unique.

Even though my child goes to traditional schooling, I spend hours daily helping them with learning- sports, music and or even basic literacy. Respect to home schooling parents, you guys do an amazing job.

Thank you for making me feel better. Also, what a beautiful array of leaves in the background. I had a time concentrating cause I was so busy admiring them.

Thank you for this video! I suspect I will be re-watching it many times to remind myself not to let the voices around (and inside) me distract me from my goals as a parent and educator. I laughed when you talked about sports. My 3 sisters and I all went to traditional school and only one of us enjoys sports and regularly practices a sport today... So yep, sometimes children do have personal preferences and strengths, as well as things they don't enjoy and aren't particularly good at, regardless of whether they are at home or in a traditional school. This argument has given me so much self-confidence... thanks!

Love this!! I'm going to have to use the "blame" line with my kids when they're arguing!

Aww! So much to learn from this video. This is so helpful for me, though I don't have a kid. Thank you so much for this. No to blame game!

I think the real problem is the skewed view society has on homeschooling. The guilt we may place on ourselves is mainly because of the beliefs ingrained in us over years and decades by the traditionally schooled world. I am fully aware of all of this and yet still find myself falling into those thoughts sometimes, that’s how deeply rooted they are. Especially for someone that attended public school all her life. I just have to pull myself out of it, remember why I’m doing this and remind myself of how ridiculous the assumed beliefs really are! Great video!

I'm so new to the homeschool world that I have yet to face any direct comments but I have kinda questioned friends who share the "homeschoolers" meme's on facebook & IG. Thanks for this imformative topic I am sure I will need it in my armory soon!

So true. I wasn't into sports and I went to public school. Our mon guilt has a way of making it to where no matter what we do or don't do we still find a way to feel guilty. Its just a mom thing. Comes with the territory. In my opinion

Hi its Victoria from home Educating the mad lads on the husbands phone. I think we let other people who are the homeschool naysayers make us think things are out fault. Schooled kids aren't perfect either. You do the best you can but your children are ultimately their own person. X it's a big thing taking full responsibility for your child's education x

Different is not always bad! I think all parents question their choices at some point.

Yes well said 💜🙌 so true, it’s often our inner voices. Our biggest ones are social based. 😂

One of my kiddos is very shy and has a hard time adjusted to change... so I understand about whether or not it’s because she is homeschooled...
