Oh man. Red Dawn was my wife and my first (blind) date. She wasn't impressed... with the movie, but we just celebrated our 39th anniversary so I guess she was at least a little impressed with me.

Recently watched it. Who can't. One of the best 80s movies ever. I watch it every so often. Also, I think someone was prepping us.

RIP Patrick Swayze

I turned 19 in 1984. I remember Red Dawn very well. I even own it on DVD so I can watch it when the mood strikes me to.

Who remembers those records that came on the back of cereal boxes. You had to cut them out and they played for like 40 seconds and then it was over

ALL my ROTC buddies in college went nuts for that movie... even a few if them were IN the movie... holds a special place...

When you think about it, we had Red Dawn, Terminator (with the nuclear bomb sequence that still lives rent-free in my head), and Poltergeist. We had the ever-loving-crap scared out of us for funsies. It's no wonder we are all hard cases of "Bring it. We aren't scared." Add to that, at school, we were taught quicksand survival tips, stop-drop-&-roll, air raid drills, tornado drills, and then watched the Challenger explode in real time, live coverage for almost 30 minutes. We truly are hardcore.

Red Dawn was sooo good at the time. It made me feel somewhat safe after having watched The Day After...alone...in the dark...

Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom gave Red Dawn its PG-13 rating. The media frenzy of the violence in the PG rated Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom forced the change. The MPAA created the PG-13 rating in July 1984, and Red Dawn earned the rating in August 1984. But without Indy 2, there might not have been a PG-13 for a few years.

Loved that movie!Went to school with Patrick Swaze’s youngest brother Sean. Missed Donnie by a couple of years and Patrick by several. He was already off in Hollywood by then I think but they are such a sweet family.

That movie scared the crap outta me. I kept sneaking extra ammo from grandma's house. I was 14, lol

when I was a young kid I remember thinking "I could never kill anyone ever..." and then Red Dawn. I was in High School too and I realized during that movie, I KNEW - yeah I could kill, I could bomb, I could sabotage, I could learn to drive a tank if I had to. All it took was the right threat, the right motivation. We could all do anything we needed to. It was a real life view adjuster
