You have some great books there!! We love love the YWAM hero books! They are our family favorites! We read those aloud and some are assigned as independent because I to love reading about their inspiring lives! My boys enjoyed Scott O'Dell’s
Island of the Blue Dolphins after they read many of the books you mentioned.

Sally Clarkson is my FAVORITE!!!
You are reading so many good books this year! The Hatchet was one of my favorites growing up and Charlotte's Web is my all-time favorite.

My kids really enjoyed “my side of the mountain” and now we are reading “Pax”...both boy friendly and adventurous.

We love read alouds! It was important to me when we pulled our girls out of public school in February to read books aloud as a class. I remember reading several books a year in Catholic school as a class & we would discuss each chapter & then write a report or make some kind of diorama. I found it strange that something like this wasn't being done in my kids' public school. We absolutely love the Who/What/When/Where books & use them with the subject topics we are learning, but like you, our read alouds are more fun books. We have read Charlotte's Web, Wizard of Oz, Black Beauty (then watched all the movies & compared them to the books), How To Eat Fried Worms (I liked it growing up hehe) Who Was Amelia Earnhardt?, Who Was Annie Oakley?, James & the Giant Peach & a few chapters of How To Train Your Dragon but my girls asked to move on from it even though they LOVE the show, movie & dragon toys. Right now we are reading Dog Diaries: Dash about a dog aboard the Mayflower. Dog Diaries is a cool series because each book is told through the dog's perspective& each book has historical references- 1 is about Abraham Lincoln's dog, another is about Queen Elizabeth's corgi, etc. My 10 yr old just finished the entire Horse Diaries series, same concept as Dog Diaries but with horses. Highly recommend.

Great book selections! We own quite a few of those same titles. ☺️ It’s always a good idea to have a mix of books with new topics and some of their interests.👍 My boys love me reading aloud to them, but sometimes the younger two have a shorter attention span so they’ll just play while I’m reading ha.😄 But we are currently reading aloud A Long Walk to Water along with our Africa Unit study and it’s so good.👌

Thanks for sharing! Please update with reviews, especially how they like the hunting books! It’s difficult finding books for boys who don’t do superheroes.

I have 2 boys in 7th & 9th now. 😳 (They grow so quickly!) I remember Charlottes Web being our first true read aloud ☺️ years ago... fast forward. I have gotten eye rolls about “boring” books too often. I finally decided to see what the hype was about with The Green Ember series. Now they are asking to read!
We are on the 3rd book, and I have a hard time not reading it without them. 😂 GREAT series! (Great for all ages.) I know you have a slew of books but add these to the list! Thanks again! Love all your videos. 🤗

We read/listened Where the Red Fern Grows over the summer during car rides. My girls were obsessed! We watched the movie and all my girls said the book was better! My heart exploded when they said that!!!

Great ideas!! My girls haven't really gotten into the Who Was/What Was series, so I wonder if they would enjoy The Story of better? If it is written more like a story, they probably would! We just finished The One and Only Ivan! It was very good. We watched the movie this week after finishing the book and they loved that.

This world needs more mountain boys!

ohh they are going to love Where the Red Fern Grows.. just have your tissues ready!! We are starting My Side of the Mountain today!! We loved Hatchet! There is one part that I hated (it is called the secret and it is early on and it is an affair but is vague.. my 8th grader figured out what was going on sadly.. but the book was good just wish that part wasn't in there). I love that you are including read alouds more this year!! So fun!!

At the end of Gladys Alward I was in tears! Amazing book and story that’s is important. We are currently listening to Eric Liddell. My kids loved my side of the mountain too!

I will have to look into the hunting series. Great find!

"My Side of the Mountain" and "A Long Walk to Water" are both so good. I read "Hatchet" as a kid and it's so good, but definitely intense.

I love all of your choices! I have “wild”, country kiddos, too. 😊 My son has recently devoured Kevin Lovegreen’s “Lucky Luke’s Hunting Adventures” series. Be sure to check them out when your boys are in need of more independent readers.

I just started homeschooling my boys this year too-- Ive got a 3 year old who's just exploring mostly, and almost 8 year old twins that missed a good chunk of 1st grade due to Corona. Homeschool will likely be our new normal though. With all the research I'm seeing, I'm liking the flexibility of Homeschool.

Yes Jamie!! So glad you’re getting into reading aloud 😁 I bet your boys would love the Roald Dahl books! We just finished Justin Morgan had a Horse, and the boys enjoyed that. Thanks for sharing these titles. Some are new to me! 😊
