Ha! The Lake of Shining Waters is from "Anne of Green Gables." "By the Shores of Silver Lake" is from Little House on the Prairie, but both are A++ in my book. ;) Those books all look great. Your kiddos are in for a treat!

my son is 11 and this is our first homeschooling year. I introduced the Little House books this year and we are on the third one! He loves them and listens so intently

We were blessed by a friend who was looking to re-home her children's book collection, and she gave us a leather bound A.A. Milne set of 4 books! I was So Very Excited!

My daughter is turning 3 in April and I was planning on buying her the complete Winnie the Pooh. 😊 She received the full Beatrix Potter set for Christmas.

My kids really enjoyed the My Father's Dragon trilogy and the Mercy Watson series.
Mr. Popoer's Penguins was a fun one! Of course, Little House books are so sweet!
My daughter(5) and my 3 yo son, are reading through the Sophie Mouse series. My older boys are not interested. It is a very sweet series about a little mouse, her adventures and making new friends. ❤

My kids are the same age plus a baby! It's wild around here, we just finished reading Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. It was a big hit. I would recommend doing 5 little peppers as an Audio book, there is a very scary part just a heads up. I am going to use a lot of this list! We love little house too.
OH and All of a Kind Family is AMAZING.

Where I live, one of the most popular series for early elementary is the Magic Treehouse series. It's not the same as Enid Blyton which I thought of at first since I also LOVED her books, but they're pretty good. There's a matching set of books that are non fiction on the topics of the fiction books. I am reading a series called Sophie Mouse to my girls and they love it. They really struggle with anything scary (we can't even watch Frozen) but they are fine with this series. It's super sweet and cute and I'm hoping my first grader will be able to read them on her own soon too!

Hello! Have you heard of The Brambly Hedge Collection by Jill Barklem? I think your children’s ages are just perfect for it - it is beautifully written but the illustrations are particularly captivating. My children adored Enid Blyton when they were little (and still do!) Listening to her Christmas and Winter stories are part of our festive family traditions each year ☺️ Best wishes from Scotland x

I've never heard of Enid Blyton - I'll have to check them out! We're following year 1 of Ambleside Online, but currently reading through Little House (we'll probably stop after Little Town on the Prairie)

Those sound great! We are reading Stuart Little now with my girls (2yo & 4yo). Also Mr. Poppers Penguins was a great one in our house too!

Great recommendations! My kids are just about the same ages: 5 1/2, 3 1/2, and 1 1/2. This year we did all of Beatrix Potter, The Mouse and the Motorcycle, My First Little House Series and My Father’s Dragon. We also did majority of the monthly picture book recommendation from Read Aloud Revival which are the best and I think I’ll continue every year. At their ages they really love all the picture books around each holiday/season etc. Glad to hear your kids liked Little House on the Prairie. I was thinking of doing that next year when they are 6, 4, and 2 but wasn’t sure if they were too young?

What do your children do while you read? We have not been able to move into chapter books for readaloud yet as my kids don't stay interested.
