In one of his most famous roles, Steve McQueen stars as tough-guy police detective Frank Bullitt. But when a pair of hitmen ambush their secret location, fatally wounding Ross, things don't add up for Bullitt, so he decides to investigate the case on his own. Unfortunately for him, ambitious senator Walter Chalmers (Robert Vaughn), the head of the aforementioned subcommittee, wants to shut his investigation down, hindering Bullitt's plan to not only bring the killers to justice but discover who leaked the location of the hideout.

This is how it feels following your friend somewhere when only he knows the address

The lack of music is phenomenal. Just the roaring engines and honking horns. It feels so…real. Like we’re right there in the cars with them, rather than watching a movie.

I don't care how many times they pass the same green VW bug, it's still one of the best car chases on film!

There’s not a single car in this scene that I wouldn’t mind having

No jump cutting, no pointless over dramatic music, and most of all NO CGI.
This is and always will be awesome.

I was a 13 year-old kid when I saw Bullitt the movie. The car chase scene was epic then and still is, in my opinion, the best car chase movie scene ever. I just remember being in the theater, and leaning left and right as Steve raced through the San Francisco streets. I think we paid around $1.35 to get in the movie. Steve McQueen was my childhood hero, and the coolest guy ever!

0:53 I love how the charger just crashes here and the editors thought "nope it didn't ", but didn't completely edit the crash out.

No cheesy back tracks, no pointless punchlines..only motors running and tires screeching...a proper car chase!

The sound of the engines is all the music you need for this iconic scene. Still the coolest looking Mustang.

50 years old and as fresh as if it were filmed this morning. The classic of all classic car chases, never duplicated for raw adrenaline and power. McQueen was a great actor and driver.

Oh look... a realistic car chase!!
No explosions or over exaggerated crashes. Just 2 cars higtailing it through the city.

Late 60’s early 70s car chase scenes more realistic than today’s fake cgi

This chase always makes me laugh. How many times do they pass the same VW Beetle and how many wheel trims does the Dodge Challenger loose 🤣🤣🤣
