When you are mining early game, put a couple of chests by the elevator.
Hop out every five levels to drop off your loot.

Here's some tip I always do :
- NEVER chopped wild tree stumps with your basic axe. Only the top part of the trees give out exp and the stump take 5 hit with basic axe which isn't worth the energy at the beginning.

- In the 3rd day of spring, it's always raining. Try to grind for catfish on town's river. My go to place is below Sam's house.

- Try to get 10 clay as early as possible because it's required to build the silo. I always short on clay for some reason.

- Salmonberry is great for energy

- Save 1 of every item because you never know when you need them. Usually for quest.

Strawberries are an incredible way to make money and increase farming level year one. It's also useful and effective to search for coffee beans at the traveling cart or dust sprites in the mines for the same reasons!

When I heard Concerned Ape say the “worm holes” are actually twigs in the ground I was shocked.

Another reason to always kill all enemies in the mines first: if you kill all the enemies first each rock you break after that has an additional chance of finding a ladder.

Started a new game to try these tips and here is what happened: I got to level 45 in the mines, upgraded the axe instead of the pickaxe so i could get the hard wood for the construction bundle, got the spring crops and foraging bundle and started a whole bunch others. Got a silo, coop and 2 chickens (no large eggs yet). Got level 5 fishing on the last day of spring, so sold my fish just in time to start summer. got the museum far enough to get the melon seeds reward. going to continue with this playthrough as i deleted my other one

To help getting through the mines, I concentrate early on killing flying bugs and grubs. The Adventurers' Guild reward for killing 125 of them is a level 4 "insect head" sword. Getting it doesn't take long, and that weapon is much better than anything you can buy from Marlon at that time. It will get you down to level 70 or so. Then you can start fighting skeletons and eventually one will drop a bone sword, which is level 5 and will keep you going until you get the obsidian edge as the reward at level 90. So even if you don't get lucky enough to find a better sword as monster drop or in a fish treasure chest, you can get through the mine usually with better weapons than Marlon will sell you at a given level.

Also, I don't think there's any need to buy coffee beans from the travelling cart. If you farm coal from the dust sprites enough they will eventually give you at least one coffee bean (one day I got two after getting another one the day before). Killing lots of cave insects will give you the ancient seed artifact, likely more than one over time.

day 1 I chop every bush on the farm (scythe uses no energy) and usually finish up with 10 to 15 mixed seeds, which are free crops

i followed this guide and it was really helpful! by the end of the season i had level five in all skills, with level six in mining, and reached the bottom of the mines, and bought the coop and barn (plus two chickens)

part of this was due to luck; i found several diamonds and had two very good luck days, one of which let me get from level 100 to level 120 in a single day (i reaaally powered through though; i took a ladder as soon as it appeared. i really wanted to reach the bottom XD)

some tips though:
- save as much gold as you can to buy strawberry seeds at the egg festival. i bought nineteen and they made me around 5000 gold split between two harvests - because of when you buy them, you can only get two harvests in before they die off, so after the second harvest feel free to neglect them or destroy them to conserve energy

- if you're chopping wood and are running out of trees on your farm, head down to the woods by the sewer and harvest spring onions while you're there! they sell for next to nothing but can be a handy source of energy. they respawn every day too!

- spend some gold on cauliflower! of the spring crops, the only two that beat it out in terms of farming xp are rhubarb and ancient fruit, with strawberry coming right after it (this was how i got my farming level to five).

- when the salmon berry bushes can be harvested, try to set aside one whole day to gather from as many bushes as possible. the woods by marnie's house are by far the most abundant for this. i got over 200 berries in the three day span for harvesting, and chowed down on them the whole way down to the bottom of the mines

- craft spring seeds and plant them. not only does it save you money, but the crops you harvest (leek, daffodil, dandelion, horseradish) count for foraging xp, which was how i got foraging to level five - this is also why i bought a bunch of cauliflower seeds; to balance out the lack of farming xp from the forage crops

- don't forget to sell extra solar/void essence! i keep a few because i'm a bit of a hoarder, but they can make you pretty decent coin if you encounter a lot of enemies in the lower levels of the mines (which i did)

- if you have a rainy day and are a pretty good fisher, definitely do river fishing to get catfish. they sell for more than other spring fish, and grant more fishing xp

- i didn't do this, but i know you can sell excess weapons/boots at the adventurer's guild, which could definitely help out!

best of luck to you all, and, if these tips aren't fun to you - by all means disregard them! i love reading the wiki so a lot of my decisions were influenced by that - that's the kind of player i am, and that's one of the things that makes stardew valley enjoyable to me. a method that doesn't make the most money or grant the most xp but is very enjoyable to its player is just as important as any other

You actually don't need the three hundred wood to repair the beach bridge until the first Saturday. This is because forageables reset on Sunday. In most areas though, there's a limit of six forageables on screen at a time, any more that try to spawn will be blocked. However, the beach does not have this limit and will therefore accumulate items all week. I find it pretty easy to collect enough wood by then from doing tree clearing at night after all my other activities for the day are done :)

here is a tip for those who don't know

Check the calendar every day near Pierre's store or buy one from Robin at the carpenter store . On someone's birthday if you give them something they love you will increase friendship levels 3 hearts ! If you give them something they like its one heart, so make sure not to miss someone's birthday !

I’ll add in my own optimized strats that I’ve compiled:

Race across the entire map searching for foragables and scything every bit of grass possible (grab the spring onions too), as you can sell all but 50 fiber (scarecrow) for the next day, as well as obtaining as many mixed seeds as possible. We plant these with the parsnips, and then set about chopping enough trees down for Foraging 1 and 2 chests.

Second day is spent fishing until 5pm; with the starting gold and fiber, as well as fishing at the rock by the docks, you can buy the fiberglass rod and a chunk of bait ASAP. This should get you fishing level 5ish by the time the caves open up (save your fish for that, it really does add up), if you fish diligently and abuse the fact that you can pass out at 2am if you got a level in a skill for full energy.

From here, any rainy day is immediately a mine day, unless you desperately need something else, as the energy spent on watering crops can’t be restored easily (field snacks are inconsistent to be gathered imo). Don’t worry about mining too much, you want to gather a ton of gold quality fish to use for energy down there. Any non rainy day is a fishing day, as well as looking for foragables and making spring seeds, or chopping wood for foraging 4.

I personally jack foraging up to 4 as soon as possible to get a massive quantity of salmon berries to be able to go to the mines after watering for the rest of spring, as I prefer to sell the fish for stonks, but if you fish by the mountain, you can get high quality chubs that also work; I’m around floor 40ish at Spring 20 and plan on going deeper soon.

That’s how I handle it, but one last really important tip; fishing is the way to earn money in a disgusting way. Spring 20, I have level 7 fishing and earned 4k on my last trip. That’s an entire coop ifaik; get fishing and work on your perfect catches!!!

I wish I found these videos earlier in my gameplay…I’m in my third year and recently got to level 100 in the mines. I also haven’t even finished the community centre….this helps a lot! I can use some of these tips for my fourth year! Great videos

When I start a new farm, I usually cut all the weeds and sell all the fiber (except the ones required for the scarecrow) at the carpenter's shop. This helps me buy extra seeds on the first day.
Since I use foraging (tea saplings, I try getting 2 hearts with Caroline asap) and fishing to earn money, I usually prefer buying kale seeds, they give the most experience per day out of all Spring crops.
I also try getting my foraging skill to level 4 before the berries season, so I can obtain 1 extra berry per bush. These berries are basically unlimited energy that lasts until Fall. :)

The only things I would add are that energy is the most limiting factor in your first spring, so you should prioritize things that are either free to do, energy positive to do (fishing), or have a return on investment that is enough to justify doing them. That being said, fish catfish in the river when it rains, and mountain lake when its not, and save all your chubs; if you check price vs energy all other fish sell for more than the energy in salad from Gus, except Chubs they have more energy than value. on the same note, prioritize eating iridium and gold chubs over regular quality ones as they have a more skewed energy return. Generally it is best to not sell as much of your stuff till the level 10 perc regardless of tree: the closer you are to 0 gold on hand the safer you are to pass out in the mines/fishing and not waste your time walking back home, and so long as you get any skill level through the day (easy to do fishing and in the mines) you will have full energy the next day.

There is an argument to be made that things like the barn/coop and the initial spring crops should be avoided as your energy and time are so low that you will have a hard time making progress on anything in the first couple days, but that is a playstyle thing. You wont have the pantry finished (greenhouse) till mid fall either way so you can delay animals till late spring/ early summer. Same thing with Pale Ale in summer: while hypothetically Hops are the most valuable crop you need to spend a ton of time picking the hops, and the keg infrastructure to get it all into pale ale. If you go with melons (or starfruit if you are fast), you only have to tend them twice and can have them turned into wine and sold by mid fall, especially with all the extra time you have not picking hops.

there are ways to cheese the amount of money you get in spring and have the skull caverns open by the early teens, but this is a beginners guide so I will just name some of the methods and let people search it themselves if they are interested: You can abuse the clay spawning mechanics for day 1 farming, time is frozen while you are on the mines elevator and farming geodes and shadow essences are very profitable.

Love the tips! Greetings from Brazil! Got really lucky on 1st year of my actual save, got 2 garbage hats early on spring and 5 iridium nodes on floor 3 of skull cavern FIRST attempt, one of them dropped a prismatic shard 🍀

one key tip I have is when you get the silo coop pair always empty out the silo because the silo itself only holds 240 hay where a chest can hold 26973 hay.
