Anyone who has ever installed a generator transfer switch knows the answer to this question.

Why would a panel be any different than a junction box?

When I was 18, I had an amazing encounter.
Sometimes something needs to be done ASAP but no one wants to do it.

Not my job, I don't have the authority, or know how

So I went to the main computer and started copying files to where they needed to be.

Tje Vice President of the company came out and asked what I was doing and I explained in detail exactly what I was doing and he said you can't do that and I said yes you can hear take a look I'll show you we can do it I'm doing it now and he said no that's not what I mean I mean you're not supposed to do that you're not allowed to do that you're not authorized to do that.

Words are very important
Be exact

You can do it but we try very hard not to. Sometimes in a remodel you have to do it. Many installations i have seen have a trough or auxillary gutter either above or below the panel where splices were made. Apparantly that was common practice a few decades ago.

The NEC class is like being a recruit in the army. I saw that book in my sleep every night

I think some jurisdictions may not allow it. Apparently it’s kind of “frowned upon” by some electricians. But gotta do what you gotta do.

It might be legal, but there are many inspectors that wont allow it due to the specific job specs.

wouldn't it be better to put the wire nut pointing upwards in case water gets into the panel. It won't pool up and corrode the wire connection. We all know that water never gets into a panel, but it could happen.

Your utility company can override the code book as long as it exceeds the code book.

But if one of the wires cut off on the panel and caused fire what is the solution

You cant use an old panel as a junction box i think people misunderstand this as no wire nuts in a panel, I stick with tom henry so i guess that dates me i started around 30 years ago as a helper 😂 God I feel old

Professional Engineer and Master electrician. Not a fan of M Holt. Yes he seems to know the code, many of us do as well. He does BS on electrical theory..stick to code..
