I don't play metal and I don't play progressive rock, but I stumbled onto this channel months ago and decided for fun to see if I could learn a little about shredding. I play primarily Blues and Classic Rock (I am all about those Boomer Bends) and I was shocked last night when I went to go learn some new solo's at how much I have improved. Staggering! how easy somethings were, that would have given me a hard time 6 months ago. I just walk over them without even thinking. Older solo's I know sound cleaner and I am adding in new flourishes with these techniques
Improved picking technique, improved finger discipline, not having to play at what would have been my max speed, and more. These workouts really improve every style, and your playing in general. Can't wait to rock this one for the next 30 days and see what happens. Keep up the great training and great videos,
Cheers

Started on 19/12/21
Day 1: Started today at 50 bpm
Day 2: Reached 100 bpm but my left hand stopped cooperating
Day 3: I can now play 100bpm with much more ease, I struggle a bit at 110bpm
Day 4: I can play 110 bpm (not very cleanly tho) but my hands stop working at 120bpm
Day 5: Still stuck at 120 bpm, I can now play 110 more easily tho
Day 6: Almost no change since last time, still stuck at 120
Day 7: I went on vacation without my guitar and I haven't practised in over a week so I am back at 100bpm
Day 8: 110bpm comes off pretty easily but still not able to go up to 120
Day 9: Almost able to do 120, still not completely tho
Day 10: At 120bpm, 130 seems impossible
Day 11: My hands felt tired today, I only got to 110
Day 12: Back at 120bpm, still not clean
Day 13: Fell back to 110 again
Day 14: Still can't get 120 clean
Day 15: I stopped practising this for a while to focus more on improv but I am back to finish it this time. Currently at 110bpm
Day 16: Pulled off 120 bpm and close to reaching 130bpm. I aim to finish the challenge by day 30
Day 17: I can now play 130 bpm but it sounds kinda sloppy
Day 18: Still at 130bpm although now it sounds cleaner
Day 19: No improvements since yesterday, still can't reach 140
Day 20: Getting closer to 140
Day 21: I can kind of play 140, although I miss a few notes
Day 22 : No major improvements since yesterday, although I feel more comfortable playing at that tempo
Day 23: I can finally play 140 without missing any notes, but I still gotta work on playing it cleaner
Day 24: Still at 140, 150 is too fast
Day 25: Reached 150, but I miss a few notes now and then
Day 26: Haven't made any major improvements since last time
Day 27: Didn't have the best practise session today, my timing seemed off
Day 28: I missed a few sessions as I was really busy this week, I barely reached 150 today
Day 29: I've been pretty busy lately so I didn't have that much time to practise. I am still at 150
Day 30: I can keep up with 150 although it sounds awful

We're so fortunate to have people that make videos like this for other guitarists. I wish I had this when I first started. It would've saves me a lot of time and mistakes I've had to fix. Thank you to you and anybody else that does this for others. Can't wait to practice this.

Started at 50 bpm. Up to 90 bpm after memorizing the pattern and practicing for 15 minutes. Going to keep practicing because the faster I pushed, the more I started noticing picking deficiencies. Thank you for this exercise, Bernth. It's definitely helping me see my lazy habits, and forcing me to improve.

Day one: Just started learning the chromatic for this exercise (50)
Day two: learned to play 60 bpm cleanly, can just get to 70 bpm
Day three: went to a friends so nothing
Day four: did 60 and 70 cleanly, can do 80 semi cleanly.
Day five: practiced polishing skills up and BARELY got to 90 after non stop practicing for 1.25 hours twice. Already feeling the improvement thanks Bernth!
Day 6: 100 bpm (sloppy)
Day 7: took in person lessons and wasn’t able to practice this exercise
Day 8: tried to slow it down and improve my playing quality (90)
Day 9: can play 90 cleanly, working on 100
Days 10-11: unable to practice
Day 12: can cleanly do 100, 110 is manageable but could be better
Day 13: cleaning up 110, 120 unclean
Day 14: still cleaning 110
Day 15: satisfied with 110, picking cleanly at 120 is tough for me but like 110, I think I can get it with time
Day 16: 120 is decent, gonna try 130 when my wrists aren’t dying 😅 bc I practiced a lot today
Day 17: 130 is okay, 140 is choppy
Day 18: decided to slow it down again at 130
Day 19: think I hit my first roadblock 140 still challenging
Essentially days 20-23: kept practicing until I could get past 140
Day 24: 150 is manageable, could be better
Day 24: improved 150
Day 26: 160 doesn’t sound terrible actually, just some minor adjustments may be needed
Days 26-31: I’ve just been doing this exercise on and off, 160 sounds pretty good so I’d say I’d completed the challenge

Some tips for new people: no need to hold the pick too tightly, being relatively relaxed but controlled is the sweet spot! Don’t reveal too much of the pick, this makes it harder to escape the strings and you will feel more resistance. Playing at a slightly slower tempo with quality is better than playing mediocrely at a faster tempo. If you are unsure of how something sounds, play with a clean tone to easily identify mistakes. This challenge is very doable! I’m an intermediate and this is just a special chromatic essentially

Man thank you so so much. This exercise and the ones on patreon have done wonders for me. I can transition strings easily now and keep time so much better. My heartfelt thanks to you man! You have made me a better guitarist, and an even better one in the future. 🤟
