At the very least they could thicken it up with some Xanthan gum. Saline ( salt water ) is way too runny, even real blood is too liquid.

Menstrual blood includes uterus lining, it's like raw chicken egg. I get why they can't use raw chicken egg but at least get the consistency right, Xanthan gum is cheap too.
