Alternative to Windows 11 | Wubuntu
So you have an old pc that don't support Windows 11 and you want to continue to use that old pc? Well this is where Wubuntu fills the gap, with support up until 2027. Its a Windows 11 knockoff by Linux.

I think this is a great idea. The closer we get to Oct 2025 more and more people are going to need to find an alternative if they don't want to pony up for new hardware.

It's almost like they're trying too hard. I'm worried that the developers of this distribution might be blasted by Microsoft and/or Canonical.

I've been a Windows user for years and have been very satisfied for the most part. However, I may switch if Microsoft insists on ramming AI down my throat!

Wubuntu right now ships with 22.04 and a 6.2 kernel which is nice. The installation is straight forward with one caveat: The distro team is based in Brazil, and it appears that the language and keyboard settings need to be changed during the installation process. For Linux users in the US who are used to just click through without paying attention since everything defaults to US settings anyway for Ubuntu based distributions, this might come as a surprise after the first reboot when the keyboard seems to be misbehaving and has to be adjusted in the settings. Otherwise it's really a well done UI clone, with all the tools necessary to actually run Windows native applications if that's required. Whether the distribution will survive a copyright challenge is a different question, however the Lindows/Linspire case seems to indicate that it would be difficult for Microsoft to get a cease and desist ruling in the US.

Thanks Brian. A fun video, but of no appeal to me personally. I use both Windows and Linux so I need them to look different enough to help remind me which one I am using.

Well, it's been around a long time now. Since 2007. It just recently changed the name from LinuxFX to Wubuntu. It's gone through a few name changes. Before it was LinuxFX, it was WindowsFX. Great video as always.

I don't advise user switching from Windows to try this. Other Linux users on here who have more experience in Linux have said that LinuxFX from which this is based had infected some PC's with Malware so it's not secure. Also the fact that they are charging so much money to use this doesn't sound right. If you are looking to try Linux for the first time then use the main distros like Linux Mint or one of the Ubuntu spins like Kubuntu or Ubuntu Mate. At least with them you know who you are dealing with.

It would be a good idea if software writers could takeover windows 10 at the end of 25 to write security code to provide updates if you cannot update your pc to windows 11.

Good Morning Brian. Wanted to know is there a way to download Wubuntu and set the computer up for a "Dual Boot" to choose which one you want to be able to play around with Wubuntu before a full change over? Many thanks my friend!! 🙂

I installed it for my educational value and installed it 2 days before your video was released. It's installed on an External USB SSD NVMe M.2 500GB drive. Works perfectly, and I use it for having a backup version of "Authy" 2FA because the Company have Sundowned "Authy Desktop" I have it on an Android Tablet, but wanted "Authy" on Linux. I can pull out the USB SSD NVMe M, 2 Device. I can then plug it in to my Desktop PC and boot to the External SSD, and within a minute, I have WUBUNTO with "Authy" running.

Very inofrmative and useful video. I have a couple of questions though - do you install it when Windows is still on the computer and acttive? Or must you strip out windows 10 before installing it? Second question can I download wubuntu now while its free and save to install later? Oh and 3rd thing just thought of - is the Wine app already built-in to it or is it fetched separately? Thanks

Yes it solved a problem I have with "Authy" Authy is no longer supported on my Windows 11 PC, but Android and Linux versions are still available. Because I need two working versions of "Authy" this solved my problem. Especially as I have in on a USB connected SSD drive 250GB and I can boot from it when required. Yes bought a licence for $35. Everything is working perfectly. So it enables me to use "Authy" Linux version. And learn about Linux as a side issue. Highly recommended for more experienced IT people. This is not recommended for novices. As extra skills and a lot of patience is required. I made a Backup Image with my PC booted into Windows 11 using Macrium Reflect Licenced version, Android App also installed for further investigation. Good project. It's excellent work by the design team.

Nice one Brian. am trying it out on a laptop to see if it will run Ham radio programs that are written for windows. If not then it's back to Win 11. but Thanks anyways.

I have downloaded a Bootable usb for Ubuntu with long term support, I placed an 8gb persistent storage as a partition on a 32gb USB drive.
I tried to download Microsoft Edge but it failed.
If this new distro is available on a Bootable usb, I'm going to do it today. My opinion for looking into moving away is windows 10 is affordable. I have yet to cross over to putting a Linux on my hard drive. Any tips. I use Rufus.

I'm telling you that I deleted Copilot by mistake in one of the programs and I want to restore it. How do I download it?

Hi Brian I'd like to see more of this operating system in more detail.
I have a hp laptop with win 10 and I am not able to upgrade it to the latest version win 10 even HP have no idea why. I am limited in internet as everthing I do has to be hotspoted from my mobile phones data and thats about 25gigs a month.
So if I'm not asking to much could you do a better review of this system
Cheers Anthony
