Since its founding 100 years ago, the Communist Party of China has grown from only about 50 members to a membership of more than 95 million, meaning one in every 15 people in China is a member. As the nation’s only governing body in China, the CCP controls almost every aspect of life – from the government and army, to society and business. The Post explains how and why so many people want to join the Communist Party.

Connections, job opportunities, climbing the social status ladder. It's the same as anywhere. When people believe doing something is an easy way to get ahead they do it.

Just in my opinion, with or without parties/party, the country need to have a group of people in charge who have knowledge and are willing to sacrifice themselves for the whole country.

“About 50 per cent of companies have party subcommittees” This sentence summarizes all the reasons of China's development. Capitalist entrepreneurship combined with a communist sense of discipline and compromise towards the others with also a strong patriotic belief and a remain to tradition. Whether you like China or not, this is something Lenin himself envisioned for a socialist country to succeed.

fun fact, even Sun Yat Sen, the father of modern China, wanted China to be one party state.

The trick is China has been in building mode driven from the very top for awhile now. And US, more of like control mode through costs from the very top to bottom in all levels. Costs, costs, costs.

Just imagine Xi had to apply for 10 times to be CPC members. It is great to see young people's below 35 joining CPC. Guessed most of them are in the essential services attached to the CPC bureaus all over China.

Meritocracy..
It isn't widely accepted because a lot of people it's so egocentric that can't recognize there are others more capable than them, and are those who should make the choices.

Everyone can join the party in the college, but it takes so much time to write the papers& let the school evaluate your performance/check your political background... So basically, what made me quit was I heard that I had to handwrite a 5000 words paper without any single character mistake. I have to say I have big respect to my classmates who can take those pains, they're real heroes.

You forgot to mention how difficult the entrance exam is to become a CCP member. They have to be proficient in history, math, and a variety of subjects. You won’t find anyone like AOC in CCP, certainly not a bartender.

We would have never rebuilt our country without Mao Zedong, and the CPC.

Every single one of our ancestors endured for us and for China. Every single one, from multiple generations. This is what connects ALL Chinese people. This is what ALL Chinese have in common. Never forget this!

There's an old saying in China:
The party looks after the people.
The people looks after the party.

It doesn't matter what party you support, there will always be people in power controlling those who aren't. The downside of communism is that while it has better stability than other governments, it also stabilizes the corruption that can take hold and neutralizes potentially individual thinking that could help remove or change it.
