How to start playing the Star Trek Adventures RPG

The Star Trek Adventures RPG from Modiphius is an excellent game, but at this point it can be confusing to know where to start. There are a total of four (!) different ways to get playing: the Starter Set; Tricorder Deluxe Set; Core Rulebook; and the Klingon Empire Core Rulebook.

So, in this video I thought I'd give you all a brief look at all four options and give you my advice for which direction to go, dependent on your level of RPG experience and Star Trek knowledge. I hope this might help a few folks who are looking to start playing this great Star Trek RPG.

My next videos on STA will look more deeply at the game system, illustrating how it differs from John Carter, and how it simulates Trek-style sci-fi drama and tension.

Back in the late 70s, early 80s there were a couple of Star trek games, one was I think a board game, the other was called star fleet battles if I remember right. It was an rpg that had every type of ship class from the classic series. I remember playing it and really enjoying it. I recently got the core rules for the current game but was really disappointed in the book. So it sits on the shelf as part of my game collection. I like the set you have, it sort of reminds me of the original games. I wish I could find the classic boxed set again because I would definitely be playing again.

Discovery Book is not the show. Its well written and introduce a lot of background lore between Enterprise and Original Series. Introducing also Terran universe stuff.

I've been told that for starting out the the Digest rules and the Utopia Planitia book covers everything for basis playing in any era. Would you agree with that?

I'm new to Star trek. Is there a significant difference between TOS and TNG other than timeline, uniforms ? I mean the rules are the same, isen't it ? 🤷‍♂️

can you use Regaler D6 for attack dice?

the dice are easy attack dice 6 = 2 hits 5= 1 hit 3&4 blank 2=1 effect 1=2 effects the skill dice 1 on the d20 is the effect. total price at most a couple of pounds/dollars .
