Where does the bird dog exercise name come from? Why is it called bird dog?
You will notice that many trained dogs that hunt and retrieve birds (known as bird dogs), like spaniels, pointers, and retrievers, will hold their four legs in a similar pattern when they smell prey. Posing with one front leg up and the opposite back leg up at the same time points in the direction of the scent.

Raise your right arm and left leg, keeping your shoulders and hips parallel to the floor. Lengthen the back of your neck and tuck your chin into your chest to gaze down at the floor. Hold this position for a few seconds, then lower back down to the starting position
You will have to fight to keep your shoulders and hips from dipping once you start moving your arms and legs. That's anti-rotation.

Def a game changer exercise. Improved my yoga practice after only 6 weeks (2 times a week of bird dogs -- 2 sets of 15). Not a lot of bird dogs but huge difference. Eased up my backpain.
