I live in Mumbai as a tenant and my cook one day came and started trying. I asked her what the matter was and she told me her husband started beating her up post 12 at night. She also told me she has more than 9 kids and showed me the bruises on her body. All she was saying was "neend mai kyu Marta hai, din mai mara toh samjh aata hai adhi raat ko kon Marta hai" I was in shock I didn't know how to react I froze. It's so scary how these things are normalised to a level where people don't even know what right and wrong means.

Reminded me of my childhood, my grandfather is really backward mentality type of person. He believes in beating women when they don't listen to their husbands and he tried to teach my father the same type of mindset. When my grandfather came to my house from the village to live for some weeks he would ask my father to beat my mother in front of me and when I heard it I was shocked and in trauma as I was very young and close to my mother. So I ran and told my mom about it and she was enraged after hearing this but due to respect for elders and shit she didn't do anything but she stopped talking to the old man. Luckily my father was morally educated to not follow such bullshit and even taught me to respect women. This is the reality of so many families and people don't want to address it😢

I didn't wanted to get flashback of my childhood and Teenage memories of dad beating my mom, he use to beat my mom after having breakfast, it was a daily a routine of his to beat up my mom before going to work, he use to say to my mom that she will die from disease., I use to think till 5th grade that this is how parents actually treat each other, that's how dad's of every house are. But then I realized no this isn't how it's suppose to be, I don't want my mom to cry anymore. But I wasn't matured enough to take action against him, so I have to watch it everyday before going to school, when I try to stop my dad he use to beat me too. During 9th grade I really got fed up of him, and told my mom if you don't press charges against him I will do it by myself, so I went to police station and explained everything and then they gave a warning to my dad, my dad got scared and he never came back for 4 years. I had to local jobs to continue my study and mom started working too. It was tough for me and my mom, but I somehow started my own embroidery business and it's been a year since then. I hope it works great for me, Although I don't have any desire or dreams for myself anymore, I am just tired of everything. I just want to provide a good and luxurious lifestyle to my mom.

I have even seen highly educated men threatening to beat their wives. Look at their audacity to even think about this! It’s extremely shameful and inhuman to resort to such behavior just because someone doesn’t think the way you do. Its traumatizing!!

phir bhi kuch log bolenge "india westernized ho raha hai, feminism will ruin india". small suggestion to them- kindly do your research on what feminism truly is.

In my neighbourhood a man beats his wife frequently after drinking. He is not deprived of anything, he is from well to do family. Few days ago everyone on the streets heard that she was shouting, begging to leave her and her childrens were also shouting ki "bas karo papa ab mat maro" "bohot maar liye ab bas kro" .
I felt so bad, i wanted to do something for her but next morning i found her normal and i was shocked.she was doing her chores like nothing happened yesterday.

Those who even have instagram will see such videos and make jokes about it. Sentences like DEKH KE SUKOON MILA, SIDHA KR DIA, can be found in the comment section of reels showing a woman being hit by a man with shoes.

It happens. I haved lived for 18 years in my village a very small village. I have seen my father beating my mom though he doesn't drink at all. I stopped talking to my father took stand for my mother but she cried and begged me talk to my father. She never made beating a big issue. Yes women in village talks about such things normally.
I guess I'm the first daughter who hated her father at one point just because he is not a good husband 🥲

My maternal relatives live in a village. One summer vacation, i went there and i was just 19 then, suddenly many of my maternal aunts started suggesting "suitable "groom for me to my mother. They said, " 2-3 saal mein toh ye apne ghar chali jayegi vse bhi ladkiya paraya dhan hoti hai." This made me very uncomfortable, like, suggesting grooms to a girl who has just atarted her college and calling her " paraya dhan". This mentality still exists.

When i was a trainee nurse there was this patient in labour room. 19 years old really skinny girl 8month pregnant with her second child, she went into labour but normal delivery was not possible due to ofcourse some complications. When we asked her why? She said, " mna nahi kar payi." ( mna nahi kar payi to continue pregnancy not for something else). It was a small statement but it really left us stunned. We ourselves were 22 or 23 years old and we used to think we are just kids (not literally). We were stressed out because of our shifts, khana bna bnaya milta tha kapde dhule dhulaye milty thy bus lene chhodne ati thi but she was much younger thn us, had family, had kids, was not healthy, unable to take care of herself and her children and idk what to say.
Legal age to marry is 18 but ideal age to have children is 21-35 according to world health organization.

Not in villages only, this also happens in houses where educated and reputed people live. Villages have those houses also where a women is respected. It is just a matter of thinking and consideration towards women
