As you get to know her, you realize she's a gentle and kind soul who only hides her softness behind sarcasm, dark humor and citing doctrines.
On my first playthrough I trusted she'd not kill a defenseless person and didn't even try to persuade her. I chose to keep silent and watch her do the right thing by her own will. This was an amazing moment.

Girl is all "it's weird being good" with the biggest smile after saving the grove and is totally devastated if you butcher them, of course she wouldn't kill the Nightsong.

Larian really knows how to make characters. It feels so real that she actually can chose what do based on the actions you took during the game.

Did this on my first playthrough - was genuinely shocked to see Shadowheart choose to *not* kill the Nightsong. Leads to some pretty great moments in Act 3, as well.

This game is so good.

Me watching that go over the cliff, “but you could’ve sold it….”

First time I got to this scene with my bard I fully trusted her, and this scene just cemented my trust and adoration of shadow as a character

Probably one of the most powerful moments in recent gaming history. It hit me so HARD. Like I loaded the scum save three times to just witness this and Nightsong transforming and escaping. My gosh that music SLAPPED during the cutscene!!

"As Shadowheart prepares to draw the spear, her mind is full of doubts. This is the final step to fulfilling her lifelong dream, and yet now, she is stalled by internal conflict. But where did it come from?"

"She recalls as much as she can from the past weeks spent with you, but it is as she feared: you were never one to insult her faith. You had accepted her as she was. This conflict within.... is entirely of her own making"

Fun fact. Trusting her has very different outcomes depending on how you interact with her! I did it and she totally murdered her hahaha 🤣

When I got this scene I started out trying to persuade her and was getting nowhere. I was so thrilled when I stepped back and trusted her and she made the right call on her own.

LOL the edit of the cheering was so good, I almost jumped out of my chair myself at that scene. It was obvious to me all along she was really a good person under the grip of something---always approving of acts of kindness towards kids, animals, people in need and then the hand thing always punishing her for it. Her story arc is far, far, far and away my favorite of the origin characters.

I love Shadowheart's arc in this game. She has a heart of gold that's been buried underneath years of abuse and oppressive doctrine.

She's an inherently good person underneath all the edginess and it really culminates in this scene.

I tried to go in blind in my first playthrough but it was hard as I knew literally nothing about how to play or D&D lore plus the game was everywhere. So I of course had some preconceived notions about all the party and main story characters but OMG there is so much more to them. Even the ones that most people deem “boring” have amazing stories and incredible development. The characters are so well written it’s insane. All of them. I did my first playthrough on explorer so I could find out how the game works and how the classes work, figure out combat and how to navigate. And because of that I could focus more on the incredible story. And you never get to see everything! My next playthroughs aren’t so goody-goody and it’s fun to toe that line. Next will be a resist durge and then a dark embracing durge. I just need to see how all of it ends, how everyone handles themselves in a tough situation with terrible people. They’re all written with so much dimension it’s incredible.

This is one of the choices I didn't even have to think about. I trusted she'd do the right thing and she did. I cried so much.

I felt so proud of her. This was an amazingly crowning moment for her character. Told her as best I could - Don't you worry, you're with us. Fuck Shar. You deserve better, you deserve us.

shadowheart and lae'zel are the best companions I've ever played with

I wish you could hold her close and tell her "Shar is the Goddess of Loss. She will revel in this lost opportunity. A rare chance for her to experience her own domain."

And then free Alyin

Trust Shadowheart not to kill Nightsong good idea, trust her not to kill Lazel bad idea.

The standing ovation is very much earned here. Top tier moment in storytelling, not just gaming.
