Honestly CS degrees are underrated. Do you need one? No. But it helps a lot in getting your foot in the door

I love how the curriculum literally just says learn python, learn the comp sci fundamentals, and prepare for the interview. XD Straight facts

The problem is that in my country, nobody takes you seriously unless you have one. They just think that you don't have the skills without even asking or testing you.

I am pretty sure you need a Bachelor's degree in order to be a navy officer.

Currently enrolled in College going for my bachelors in Computer science with a concentration of software development. Although I am not taking coding class in college yet, I am learning coding on my own to get ahead.

It’s so strange seeing these because I can answer every single leetcode Question you can throw at me. I’ve read the book. I’ve done my résumé. I have my github. I have even developed applications for small businesses…

Yet, I can’t seem to get a single interview

I have better luck getting interviews for senior management as like a director of IT then I do for a junior or mid-level software development position

I think I have a better shot of just trying to take my ideas and make money with that then I do with actually getting a stable job

In the past you could get a job with a boot camp. Today, it's very hard to get one with a degree. Experience of course trumps all, but thats a catch 22. I would not recommend boot camps because the moment it became popular is the moment it became oversaturated. People I know with boot camps and even without either have gotten jobs but it is far and few between. It is certainly not the norm.

Yes, you can learn anything by yourself and potentially get a job. But like someone working on an airplane, wouldn't you prefer he was FAA certified if you were going to be flying on it?

There are always exceptions but having a CS is still better. And to add more on top of a CS would be more beneficial.

agreed in this, I love architecture so am studying architecture in the university but also love programming as a hobby.
so I create time everyday for my hobby which is programming to learn so I can build bots, app, website, and more.

Coding boot camps compared to an actual degree don’t go nearly as in depth into complex topics like computer architecture, data structures, and the logic behind computers and it’s applications. If a company had to choose between a college graduate with a BA in SWE or CS or someone who’s completed a coding bootcamp, they’ll pick the college graduate 100% of the time.

Software Engineering is not about programming though. Let’s talk about grammars, parsers, compilers, RISC architectures, cryptography, symmetric keys, network protocols, state machines, regular engineering stuff (maths, lot of maths, physics, electronics, digital electronics, etc.)… but good luck with your python script, that looks fun, nothing like Kirchhoff or “make the following algorithm run in O(log n)”

Thank you, brother. I can really call you this way right now. As a Ukrainian in another country, your channel really helps me a lot. It’s rare to find free help and guidance right now, that specific, with this attitude. I’ve already started implementing things that you’ve mentioned ❤
P.S. Landed my first job, internship in Germany, CS associate degree, but had 2 years of self-learning and pet projects making.
Would like to contact you somehow, if you’ll notice it

People with military experience usually get hiring preference, so that could've played a part in your friend getting a job at Microsoft right after completing a boot camp.
