I have my dads ‘54 Les Paul he got in high school. It still sounds as good, if not better, than anything on the market today.

Guitar expert: “3500”
Rick: “i can give you a sack of flour and three of my most fertile hens”

Have had Dad's 57 Les Paul standard since 65. Am now 65. Thank you Duain Allman!

You could show Rick Jimi Hendrix's Woodstock stratocaster and he'd probably say "lemme call in my buddy" then tell you "not many people would want it, plus it's old, and I have to make a profit...so I'll give you $5"

Wow, the value of these has really gone up in the 8 years since this video came out. Holy cow, you won't find one of these anywhere near $3500 now.

Guitar expert: its probably worth $3800
Rick: I'll give you 97 cents

1:29 "6 to 7000 dollars" *Rock music starts*
1:33 "obviously there was a lot of stuff done to this" *dreadful riff plays*

I have a friend that took an original 1968 Gibson LP Black Beauty that he bought new in '68, and had a Floyd Rose put on it, lol. I just shake my head whenever I see it.

Why would you want to add a toggle switch to a Gibson Les Paul or refinish it? To even think about drilling a whole into a Les Paul, or stripping it down, ouch.

In around 1968 I bought I believe it was a 59 Les Paul for around 250$ from a friend of mine! And also acquired 57 telecaster in a trade deal. I was a wheeler dealer in thoose days. I don't even want to tell you what I sold them for. But im still kicking myself in the rear end. But at that time who knew! I just loved the Chase.

Jimmy Page himself could come in to that pawn shop to sell his red Les Paul. Rick would call in an expert who said that the guitar had taken a lot of abuses throughout 70's. Rick would offer it for $525 top.

With that cheesy poly finish on it, its $1500-2000-.

That was a generous assessment for a guitar that's been stripped of its finish and repainted.

That Les Paul looked like a really cool players instrument !

Its a 69 from between very late March and late November. Has large headstock which came in late March 69. Still has one piece, non-sandwich body with centre seam top, no neck volute ( the volute came in late 69), still has holly wood (not fibre) headstock veneer. Could have had p90s if early in the year or mini hums if later. So could have been a Standard or early Deluxe. It's been routed for full-size humbuckers. The gold lined cases (model 0535 'faultless') were only available in 1968 (version1) and this one (version 2) in 1969. Proper old growth Honduras mahogany with bias cut necks on these early reissues. They sound as good as the 50s ones in my experience. Jesse is about right on the price, but it's not a 68. Also check the beautiful 'German' top carve, not the dome top of the soon to appear Norlin models.

Rick 5 seconds later: we don’t know when it’s from

That's an awesome les Paul and I have 4 of them so why that guy didn't know anything about and took it to these guys is beyond me

I bought a special edition dark blue burst Player Series stratocaster (MIM) and even though it's an MIM which will limit it's future value I keep it entirely stock. I don't modify it at all.

When someone modifies a les paul : “look how they massacred my boy.”
