Great interview. Simple and to the point. Mercury should consider...option to place the engines together so that two of them can be married. So that the manufactures can really give back the dive platform and stern to the customers.

What's the weight of the 600 and the 500 engines?

I skipper a custom ordered 40' World Cat with dual merc 600's. I tried to talk the owner out of it but after hearing how quiet they were compared to yamas his mind was set. Fast forward 1 year after delivery...haven't run 1 month with both engines running. Every breakdown is a 6-8 week fix. Wtf good is a warranty on a million dollar boat if it's down 9 months of the year. Here's the best part they don't tell ya, when one engine goes, the other is now power limited. I've been 40 miles offshore Hatteras 3 times now with twin 600 ho engines, list one and could only make 7 it's cuz their software power and steering limited the good one. WTF??? Why is no one talking about this??? I suspect the marketing department at Merc is deleting the truth as soon as it hits the Internet. So, are they great engines? When they run, sure. Would you climb in an airplane that had a 75% chance of engine failure and that would cause the other to power down. I'm a professional pilot and that's a hard no for me.

I'm concerned with the reliability and also how fast it will ware of the bottom part that rotates... Hello from São Paulo, Brazil 🇧🇷 Brazil 🇧🇷.

Nice job on the interview Marcus 👍

As for the steerable gear case, I prefer simplicity of design. My gut tells me that lower unit has to be insanely expensive to service, repair or replace. That's why I am not a pod fan. Still pretty cool technology.

Definitely not targeted at us common folk. We'll mostly see these on 50ft+ boats. For those boats, owners will be able to replace their 5-6 outboard setups with only 3-4 of these 600s. So they'll be paying $15-20k more per engine, but they'll need 2 less engines.

for best outboard ever if you are refering to large outboards i would have to say that the marine 7 627 would have to be in my opinion the Best Outboard Motor Ever.

In the history of ALL gas V12’s engines, marine or otherwise, has any manufacturer ever produced a reliable V12 and I’ve got money that says this will be no different.

There cool but where's the twin turbos 😊

Hey Merc, beautiful outboard but dump the duo prop set up and go with a single rotating Sharrow prop and you'll get better performance and reduce the cost and complexity of the counter rotating drives. Of course this will mean admitting that the Sharrow prop is a far better design than current prop designs (basically putting you out of the prop business) but Yamaha has already signed on

Need a few years before any conclusion can be made as far as reliability, traditionally Mercury has had more issues and reliability, breakdowns, etc. than all others combined. Sucks that dealers were forced to use them during supply shortages
