seek them out.

Director - Wim Wenders

Synopsis - Travis Henderson, an aimless drifter who has been missing for four years, wanders out of the desert and must reconnect with society, himself, his life, and his family.

Hard to believe this is my 50th Modern Trailer, so I wanted to celebrate that with an extra special film that is very near and dear to me. In fact, I consider it one of the quintessential American films (made by a European that is).

I first saw Paris, Texas when I was younger, as a flannel wearing Nirvana fan who had read somewhere that it was one of Kurt Cobain’s favorite movies. So of course I made an effort to track down a copy, and the poetic images of the Southwest and the weathered, world-weary performance of Harry Dean Stanton were forever etched into my mind.

No matter what you think of my updated “Modern Trailer”, I am really excited to share this incredible new transfer of the film with you all. Though I have owned several versions over the years including the Criterion Blu-Ray, nothing has ever come close to this new 4K transfer, which this trailer is sourced from. It felt like I was seeing the film for the first time! If you’ve only seen Robby Müller’s masterful images from the older masters or the outdated archival trailers on Youtube - well, then you are really in for a treat!

And if you’ve never seen Paris, Texas at all, well I hope this gives you a reason to do so. It is a celebration of the open road, atoning for our pasts, and moving forward despite our flaws & weaknesses. Truly a one-of-a-kind experience, nearly every damn frame is a work of art. -- DM

These are doing a huge service to classic films. I’m guilty myself of skipping over films I knew I should watch because there wasn’t a good trailer(dated or poor quality) or a trailer at all. And so many films with beautiful color rendition. Keep up the good work !

I was prepared to say, "I love this film SO SO much, " but I see plenty of others already have! I haven't seen it in decades, but Wenders had a formative impact on how I see the world. The home movies here are some of the most affecting in Cinema history. (I shot a short film in Super 8mm, trying for a "Paris, Texas" effect). Also, one of the most evocative titles in film history.
