In my opinion the term UX design is being thrown around everywhere, but if you look at UX, user experience is kind of an umbrella term. The experience is dependant on, user interface design, interaction design, information architecture and service design, which are all there own fields. A UX designer comes with a ton of different business, research and graphic design skills. A data-analyst and a user interface designer can both fall under UX design but have different responsibilities and skillsets.

This is a very good explanation of the disciplines and how they align. I think there is a lot of confusion, especially with job descriptions. I think the Google's, Facebook's, and Amazon's of the world have it figured out, but other companies who are just now trying get on board with design, create these unicorn like job descriptions that make it confusing for people who are looking for work and just trying to get into the field. When in doubt learn everything.

I think schools should take a look at how they teach and "present" UX as a career. Most if not all courses, bachelors and master are called UX/UI Designer or developer, it is and will be impossible to separate them if schools keep on putting them together.

UX, UI, Visual Communication, Interaction Designer there's so many titles being thrown around it's confusing to know exactly what to call yourself especially as someone studying Interactive Multimedia.
