Hi everyone!
God bless.
In this video, I share a look inside the Saxon Math Curriculum for the Algebra 1/2 and the Algebra1 courses.

***VIDEO CONTENT UPDATE***
In the video, I mentioned that the Geometry is incorporated in the Algebra 1 & Algebra 2 in the 3rd Edition. I learned that a portion of the Geometry credit for HS is also earned within the Advanced Mathematics Course.
Here is a video by Rainbow Resources that provides more detail in regards to that.

Saxon’s spiral approach to teaching has worked well for our homeschool.
If you have any questions regarding this curriculum, I am more than happy to share our personal experience with it.
***We hope to do a video soon with tips for teaching upper level math. ***
You can look out for that video! :-)

In my school, Algebra 1/2 is for Grade 8 (which I am in as of October 25, 2024) and Algebra 1 is for Grade 9

Thanks for the flip-through! Looking into Algebra 1 programs for next year. :)

For a full Geometry credit in Saxon 3rd edition you have to complete Alg 1, Alg 2 and the 1st 60 lessons of Advanced Math. Each level covers about a third of the geometry credit.

This was super helpful as I try to decide between Algebra 1/2 and Algebra 1. Thanks!

I really appreciate this. I have tried so hard to find out how Abeka math (specifically Pre-Algebra works) but can't find any specifics online or on YouTube. How do I know it's right for my child without knowing how it actually teaches math? 🤷🏼‍♀️

So horizons math grade 6 (in the 5th grade?) led up right into Algebra 1/2 in the 6th grade for your son? I'm just curious. My kid is very small but I tutor saxon Algebra 2 to homeschooled highschoolers. They have the option to take advanced math and calculus in 2- 4 years (1-2 years in advanced math and 1-2 years in calculus). Even though they use 3rd edition saxon, they also take a separate geometry class since the other maths (after algebra 2) are electives. It seems easier to build the algebra foundation early and take those upper level maths over 4 years instead of two, so they can really know calculus entering college. But you have to finish algebra 2 in 8th grade and skip a standalone geometry, which is what you're setting your son up for and I'm just trying to figure out how you did that. Was his school prior to homeschooling just ahead or something?

Hi, I know this comment is a bit late haha but I have a question, Does Algebra 1/2 require the child to use a calculator at any point? Thank you ❤️❤️
