Great job extracting that bolt. Definitely the most underrated job in this video

I used to own a MK6 GTI which had a known timing chain tensioner failure. Before Volkswagen put out a recall I attempted the repair myself. I bought a $250 kit with the updated parts, this was the most in depth job I attempted at the time and I put 8 hours of labor taking my sweet time as to not mess up. Well somewhere along the way the chain skipped a tooth and when i finally finished at 2am and cranked the engine. Pistons met valves and I lost all compression. If I had a camera on myself I would imagine I would have had the same expression as Jobe did.

That moment sucks but thank you for showing mistakes happen. You could have easily scrapped the footage. The reality is these things happen, buts important to take a moment of reflection and then pick up the wrench and get back at it.

And hey, at least its more content 😆

5:20 The work instruction for rod bearings on early cars calls for 5Nm, 30Nm, then 70degrees of angle. For late cars it is 5Nm, 30Nm then 105degrees - You also have to do this three times per bolt making it a bit more of a fraught process. Important distinction. The earlier cars have M11 bolts the late cars M10.

12:30 I don't know if I've ever been more proud of another grown man as I was for Jobe here. I smiled with him on that one, felt like I witnessed a miracle.

When it first started up, it sounded a bit "clattery" but then sounded OK. The noise at the end sounded more like serpentine belt squeal, hopefully not rod bearings, didn't hear any knock. What a cliffhanger, excited for part 2

I felt every bit of that last 30sec. That look on the face I know all too well. "Did I try fix a potential problem and accidentally make an even bigger one. FML". You'll get this fixed up, we are here cheering you on!

Everyone's talking about the cliffhanger at the end but I'm Pausing the video to comment on the mid video ad for 303, gotta be the funniest ad I've ever seen on a YouTube vid. Keep doing skits like that and you got some magic.

I'd bet dollars on the belt being the incorrect size and not charging the alternator and once the battery depleted itself the car turned off. Spinning a rod bearing typically doesn't make the motor turn off suddenly like that. Paired with the slow cranking after i feel pretty confident in my guess.

But if a rod bearing did spin and i'm just a dumb asshole, damn that sucks.

Love seeing the real side of hobby mechanics. Broken bolts, sudden disaster after hours of work. Cars are pain. But aint nothing to it but to do it and get back at it. Godspeed boys

Just wanted to say that I appreciate y'all working on jack stands even though I know it would be easy to get access to a lift. Makes this channel super relatable.

I usually skip in-video ads, but you guys make it so entertaining I can't make myself skip them on this channel

I appreciate the appropriate moment taken for getting that stuck bolt free without further drama. The relief was dripping off the screen.
