How long does a skate deck normally last you?

I usually set up a new one after a few months of skating.

Also make sure the bottom of your shoes are clean before you step on your grip, leaves/dirt makes your grip tape lose it’s traction super fast.

Woodworker here. Decks are basically laminate, so I wonder if you could use a product like Johnson's Paste Wax to cure it before assembling. It has hydrophobic properties, but it's by no means waterproof. Just make sure you buff it off after the second coat and let it cure for a day. This should protect the edges of the board and keep the fibers on the faces together better, so it'll survive a bit more abuse.

As for bearings, McMaster Carr sells closed high use bearings you might try swapping out. Closed bearings last longer under stress and are virtually waterproof.

Another thought is there's a special wax you can buy from hardware stores that you use to fix abrasives like sandpaper. I can't remember the name, but if your grip tape is getting dull you might consider trying it to save a few bucks.
