Studying Medical Nutrition and I love these videos. Hitting the nail on the head with every explanation with great references and information which is generally difficult to get across to the general population. Thank you for the videos they are great!

I haven't completely cut dairy but i mostly use almond milk and i did get ear infections but haven't had one in a long time. My change in diet had nothing to do with the ear infections but what you said makes sense from my anecdotal experience.

It’s far better to maintain a powerful immune system; but should one take an antibiotic, know that there are negative consequences as he articulated.

Thanks Doc, I recently got a skin infection (presumably staph), I was prescribed SMZ/TMP (Bactrim) and fortunately my infection appears to be getting better. That said I am concerned about disrupting my gut microbiome which could potentially lead to harmful bacteria taking over and causing illness. I am going to consume foods and supplements to promote healthy gut flora and try to minimize the risk of negative effects from the antibiotics

Dosage ?? Dr. Sung, Thank you for this excellent video. I will be getting a dental implant and the dentist has prescribed amoxicillin 500mg 3 times daily for 9 days.
Do you suggest that I take all 4 of the probiotics on your whiteboard?
What dosage do you suggest?

I was on azithromycin and took probiotics (unsweetened kefir) at the same time as the antibiotic. I had no idea it was supposed to be 3 hours before taking the pill. Does that mean that the antibiotic didn’t work as it was supposed to? FYI it was to prevent infection after a sinus lift surgery.

I just finished taking an antibiotic for 7 days and had no issues or side effects because I took probiotics long with it (85 billion) several hours apart from the medication. I am still taking the probiotics until I run out.

There is a study that was conducted in which people were given antibiotics for 1 week. One group was given an autonomous fecal transplant afterwards, another was given probiotics after wards, and the other was given a placebo. The autonomous fecal transplant group fared better (rapid gut microbiome restoration). The placebo group experienced recovery in about a month. And the probiotic group had a delay in recovery. I think it has something to do with the bacteria competing with each other, making restoration take longer. (This is just one study, though)

Great video but somewhat confused about the 3 hour probiotics dosage while taking antibiotics? Simply this, before or after taking the antibiotics?
Most times it is recommended from 2 hours after to 6 hours after ?
Subscribed 👍🏼

I have reason to believe it takes much longer to restore the gut biome than recommended in the video.

Thanks Doc👍😎 I've had two knee replacements. The ortho Doc advised me to always take 4 amoxicillin an hour before any dental procedure or cleaning. So I may do it 2 to 4 times a year.(just the one high dose) I'm guessing that's not enough to do much harm. The dentist feels that the antibiotics are not necessary since it's been 5 yrs since the replacements.

Great information Dr. Sung. I've been drinking milk kefir for over a month. I start Amox-Clav tomorrow and this is the information I was looking for. You just earned a new sub.
😎👍❤
