Lifelong bachelor here. I can remember in my 20's, playing the field, not taking relationships too seriously, not chasing letting them come to me, then in my 30's getting more serious, trying to vet these women for long relationships and finally deciding that marriage and kids were off the table because no suitable person presented themselves. I remember saying, I'd love kids, but the women were argumentative and not very intelligent when it came to money saving and investing, operating on a budget. I just oped out. I can explicitly remember falling asleep one night in my early 30's wondering if I'd regret not getting married and having a family. Now in my late 50's, I don't regret it one bit. Seeing what men go through in divorce and the hell their women and children could put them through, I dodged a bullet. I retired early due to being able to control my expenses and invest throughout my life even though I had a meager wage and low end job that I really did enjoy. So glad I never got married.

let's be honest here, most men don't have many options. their choice is between staying single or toxic marriage. being single is still the better option imo.

It mostly comes down to lack of options for a lot of men. Too few and you'll be tempted to marry the first woman that shows any interest out of desperation without vetting them at all. When you're young and haven't experienced what a bad relationship is like it's hard to understand that being single is infinitely better than being married to the wrong person.
