Only issue with Rogue One is it left us expecting too much from the sequels. The space battle was utterly amazing.

Absolutely. To be honest, I thought the entire film was genius. The writing, the acting, the music, the cinematography. While Tarkin might not be picture perfect, I thought the CGI was still very well done. They can even go back and redo the cgi to improve it when tech gets better, if they want to. I love it!

I also like how it wasn't just a space battle, they also had a whole operation on the ground, and there was interaction between the space and ground forces in a multi-front battle, which you would think there would be more of in a universe with space travel.

I have thought for a long time that this is the best space battle in all of Star Wars, but I was never able to articulate the reasons as clearly as this. Great video.

The first ten seconds, with all the ships coming out of hyperspace with the Rebel Fanfare blaring, is one of my favorite scenes in all of Star Wars.

Honestly, seeing this battle in IMAX was amazing. I love how they give us a clear goal and even give us 3 characters to follow through the battle. Endor used to be my favorite but this just takes the cake, seeing red and gold leaders plus cameos from the phoenix fleet from star wars rebels was just the delicious icing on a spectacular cake.

You're absolutely right. It's gotta be my favorite battle; it accomplishes so many things like-
1) its genuinely thrilling. good modern rendition of Star Wars with good CGI, music, great teamwork and communication between seemingly insignificant and unnamed characters - the various pilots - and the feeling of *urgency* is placed on us with everything else we've seen in the movie regarding the Rebel Fleet as well as the Rebels in their entirety

2) showing genuine danger, in the sense that anyone could die, anyhow and at at any moment, just like the rebel soldiers who are scaling Scarif on foot, on the ground. Prominent example of this happening is when the shield is being put up by the Empire and every Rebel pilot who thought they could make it before the door closed either made it through or crashed with extreme force and presumably died.

3) war decisiveness; everyone - both on the screen and watching - are aware that the Empire is on the defensive and the rebels are actually on the offensive - something that they NEED to pull off successfully, which'll require everything, every plan, order, and tactic to be executed with the best of efforts.

By nearly every measure, Rogue One was the movie for those of us who grew up in Star Wars. Timothy Zahn and Michael Stackpole provided fantastic examples of how as we grew up the franchise could mature with us. That galaxy became big enough to tell full-fledged, complex stories with old and new characters that felt real (Corran Horn is a personal fave). That sense was absent from the prequels and the sequels, relying instead on the same boring handful of characters taking part in a story that felt so dumbed down my 5-year-old self would judge me for watching it. The Battle of Scarif was a masterfully crafted moment in a movie that gave me the same sense I got reading about Wedge and Rogue Squadron or Grand Admiral Thrawn.

I also really like this battle, the sense of tactics rather than just brawling. Each side makes their moves, and there is a back-and-forth. The strengths of both sides are shown.

This battle really made me feel what people must have felt when they saw A New Hope for the first time in theaters, especially the sequence at 0:49

One of my favourite things about Scariff is that they showed the various stages of the Rebel Fleet working together to take out the ISD. Even though they have more ships, most of them are just cruise ships and transports with turbo lasers duct taped to the hull. So they had to work really hard for their windows so that the snub fighters could break through.

Rogue One is one of my favorite movies ever. Feels really authentic for the characters and the battles really do have the correct "air of desperation" for the task ahead.

it's so cool to see the rebel ships jumping out of hyperspace sequentially and it's like introducing each ship to the audience and letting the audience feel the importance of each.

You don't know how many times I've rewatched this film lol... and yet, everytime I get so giddy and get all these goosebumps the minute the Rebel fleet drops out of hyperspace and the battle begins! Truly amazing 👏

Rogue One is a masterpiece. The whole movie is great. EASILY the best movie in the entire franchise outside the original trilogy. So much awesomeness in one flick.

The Battle of Scarif is still among my top 5 favorite Star Wars battles.

Rogue one is a very well constructed story. I still remember the feeling I had when it all clicked that they would be successful in their mission, but they would all die. Then that magnificent hall scene with Vader that truly conveyed the powerful fear of his presence.

It captures the essence of Star Wars perfectly.

Pretty convincing case- I had issues with Rogue One but the movie as a whole, and this battle in particular, was about the only thing in the whole saga that seemed like a war movie in space.

Just watched this movie again 2 nights ago. Well said on it being a large but still coherent battle for the viewer and how we know the rebel’s objectives on this mission. Seeing the Y-wings do the bombing run on the ISD reminded me a lot of when Anakin Ahsoka Plo Koon and clone pilots were attacking the malevolence as well.

Rogue One was legitimately the only movie made since Return of the Jedi that felt like Star Wars in it's finest. The prequel trilogy had some awesome moments but this entire film encapsulated the spirit of Star Wars. 9/10 stars
