Quick Tip: How to Use the Tangent Relationship Tool in Fusion 360 | Autodesk Fusion 360

You asked, we answered! We are proud to introduce the Tangent Relationship tool in Autodesk Fusion 360.

Most CAD tools use geometric mates and constraints to restrict the degrees of freedom gradually. Fusion Joints flips the script and allows the user to slowly "open up" degrees of freedom. But it has its limits, and one of those was the ease of kinematic assemblies. The new Tangent Relationship tool in Fusion 360 gives you the ability to have two components tangent to each other: when one component moves, then the other moves tangentially with it.

In the Fusion 360 assemble panel, pick the tangent relationship command. Next, select a face on the first component, then a single or suite of faces on the second component. The result will be that the faces of the two corresponding components will maintain a tangent geometric relationship. Think of it as a constraint. The joints are exercised via dragging, animating, or driving joints. A node for the tangent relationship will appear at the appropriate place in the timeline and a node under a folder called relationships will be placed in the browser below the joints folder.

Pros move so fast in these videos that I can never keep up. I am impressed with the speed but that does nothing for me while trying to learn.

I'm reviewing the foundational concepts. Read it was going to be removed soon, and had just referred another person on Facebook 360 group to the course. Didn't know there was this live 360 on Youtube. How do we find a schedule for when it is live ? Was tough at first, no prior 3d design or anything. I am really enjoying it, alot. Have made some designs and printing them on a 3d printer. Thank you Autodesk for making the program available for us to use. Would like to be able to do prismatic convert, but it's ok. Better motivation to model my own stuff.
