I am a Native American woman who was raised on my reservation. RESERVATION! I did not get the memo I was oppressed and underprivileged. I worked hard for my education and built a life I am proud of. I never once considered myself disadvantaged. My children have been raised to understand your life is what you make of it. We are proud of our culture and do not see it as anything other than a gift.
Telling people they are victims does nothing more than steal the vision they have for themselves. Telling them the have opportunities, like everyone else, gives them the power to strive for their dreams. I have accomplished everything I have ever dreamed for myself and had someone told me I couldn’t and would likely not, I most definitely wouldn’t have.
